In this article we study the pointwise decay properties of solutions to the wave equation on a class of stationary asymptotically flat backgrounds in three space dimensions. Under the assumption that uniform energy bounds and a weak form of local energy decay hold forward in time we establish a t−3 local uniform decay rate for linear waves. This work was motivated by open problems concerning de...

Time dispersion plays an important role in the propagation of femtosecond pulses through water. The combined e ects of time dispersion, radial di raction and the Kerr nonlinearity on the pulse propagation are analyzed and it is shown that normal time dispersion leads to signi cant temporal broadening of ultrashort pulses and that it increases the threshold power for catastrophic self-focusing.
Apparatus and techniques are demonstrated which allow gas phase dc electro-optic Kerr effect measurements to be made with 0.1% absolute accuracy and nanoradian sensitivity. Measurements of the electric-field-induced birefringence of a gas are calibrated against a liquid Kerr cell, which is in turn calibrated absolutely in situ. Some of the problems addressed in this work are control of stray bi...
We show that the frame of the Kerr spinning particle consists of two topologically coupled strings. One of them is the Kerr singular ring representing a string with an orientifold world-sheet. It has electromagnetic excitations (traveling waves), which corresponds to the old model of the Kerr’s microgeon. The excitations induce the appearance of the extra axial string which is topologically cou...
Abstract. A possibility of tuning the phase of the third-order Kerr-type nonlinear susceptibility in a system consisting of two interacting metal nanospheres and a nonlinearly polarizable molecule is investigated theoretically and numerically. It is shown that by varying the relative inter-sphere separation, it is possible to tune the phase of the effective nonlinear susceptibility χ(ω;ω, ω,−ω)...
In Tb/Co multilayers, the saturation magnetization M, and the anisotropy constant K,, as a function of the modulation period are fitted by a mean-field model and a dipolar interaction model respectively. The Kerr rotation angles Bk relax at room temperature, which could be attributed to the existence of shear stress due to lattice mismatch at the interface.
