The real version of a (2 + 1) dimensional integrable generalization of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation is studied from the point of view of Painlevé analysis. In this way we find the Lax pair, Darboux transformations and Hirota’s functions as well as solitonic and dromionic solutions from an iterative procedure.

We generalize the Lax pair and Bäcklund transformations for Toda and N=1 super Toda equations to the case of arbitrary worldsheet background geometry. We use the fact that the Toda equations express constant curvature conditions, which arise naturally from flatness conditions equivalent to the W–gravity equations of motion.

We prove that the Schäfer–Wayne short pulse equation (SPE) which describes the propagation of ultra-short optical pulses in nonlinear media is integrable. First, we discover a Lax pair of the SPE which turns out to be of the Wadati–Konno–Ichikawa type. Second, we construct a chain of transformations which relates the SPE with the sine-Gordon equation.

A new one-dimensional model, the multicomponent Calogero model of B N-type confined in the harmonic potential, is introduced. The Lax pair of this model is determined, and then a set of functionally independent conserved operators are constructed.
