The purpose of this position paper is to introduce the prototype of a design product knowledge representing system which is theoretically guided by our recent work on extending Function-Behaviour-Structure ontology. The basic constructions and data-storing strategies are presented in the paper along with its major interface, thus to give an outline of the working pattern of this system.

Management of upper gastrointestinal anastomotic leaks is an inter-disciplinary challenge. We present a case of late pyloroplasty leak following 3-stage oesophagectomy. We describe a novel, combined endoscopic and fluroscopic procedure to introduce a T-tube into the anastomotic leak proving an ideal plug at the site of leak which enabled the patient to consume a normal diet and return home safely.

Intelligent technologies are increasingly facilitating sustainable water management strategies in Australia. While this innovation can present clear cost benefits to utilities through immediate leak detection and deference of capital costs, the impact of this technology on households is less distinct. By offering real-time engagement and detailed end-use consumption breakdowns, there is signifi...

BACKGROUND Nasal noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is a common form of noninvasive respiratory mode used in newborn infants. A next-generation nasal cannula (Neotech RAM cannula) has recently been used to provide nasal NIV. The impact of the Neotech RAM cannula on the delivery of pressure needs to be studied. METHODS In this ex vivo experimental design, a lung simulator (IngMar ASL 5000, version ...

Uterine contractions are tightly regulated by the electrical activity of myometrial smooth muscle cells (MSMCs). These cells require a depolarizing current to initiate Ca(2+) influx and induce contraction. Cationic leak channels, which permit a steady flow of cations into a cell, are known to cause membrane depolarization in many tissue types. Previously, a Gd(3+)-sensitive, Na(+)-dependent lea...

IMPORTANCE Anastomotic leak is a potentially devastating complication of bowel surgery, yet a leak can refer to a range of clinical problems, with disparate treatment and outcomes. OBJECTIVES To qualitatively categorize the spectrum of anastomotic leaks that occur after low anterior resection for rectal cancer and to describe their effect on outcomes. DESIGN AND SETTING Retrospective review...

BACKGROUND Accumulating evidence suggests that peritoneal cytokine concentrations may predict anastomotic leak after colorectal surgery, but previous studies have been underpowered. OBJECTIVE We aimed to test this hypothesis by using a larger prospectively collected data set. DESIGN This study is an analysis of prospectively collected data. SETTINGS This study was conducted at 3 public ho...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Spinal CSF leak syndrome is a unique disorder caused by spinal CSF leak. In this study, we attempted to determine whether MR myelography (MRM) can detect the leakage site in the spine. MATERIALS AND METHODS We performed both MRM and radioisotope cisternography (RIC) in 15 patients with spinal CSF leak syndrome. Patients were included in this study if they had at least 2...
