We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions for the Dirichlet problem for quasilinear parabolic equations in divergent form for which the energy functional has linear growth. A tipical example of energy functional we consider is the one given by the nonparametric area integrand f (x;) = p 1 + kk 2 , which corresponds with the time-dependent minimal surface equation. We also study the asimpto...

Backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) were introduced by Pardoux and Peng [6], and it was shown in various papers that stochastic differential equations (SDEs) of this type give a probabilistic representation for the solution (at least in the viscosity sense) of a large class of system of semi-linear parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs). A new class of BSDEs, called back...

We consider the exponential reaction–diffusion equation in space-dimension n ∈ (2, 10). We show that for any integer k ≥ 2 there is a backward selfsimilar solution which crosses the singular steady state k-times. The sameholds for the power nonlinearity if the exponent is supercritical in the Sobolev sense and subcritical in the Joseph–Lundgren sense. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

We study the homogenization of the equation R(εx) ∂uε ∂t −∆uε = f , where R is a periodic function which may vanish or change sign, with appropriate initial/final conditions. The main tool is a compactness result for sequences of functions which have bounded norms in the spaces associated to the problems.

This paper presents the analysis of a distributed parabolic optimal control problem in a multiharmonic setting. In particular, the desired state is assumed to be multiharmonic. After eliminating the control from the optimality system, we arrive at the reduced optimality system for the state and the co-state that is nothing but a coupled system of a forward and a backward parabolic partial diffe...

In this talk, starting with some earlier results, we propose and analyze an alternate approach of optimal L2error estimates for semidiscrete Galerkin approximations to a second order linear parabolic initial and boundary value problem with rough initial data. Our analysis is based on energy arguments without using parabolic duality. Further, it follows the spirit of the proof technique used for...

In this paper homotopy perturbation method (HPM) is employed to solve two kinds of differential equations: one dimensional non homogeneous parabolic partial differential equation and non linear differential equation. Using the HPM, an exact analytical solution to non homogeneous parabolic partial differential equation and an approximate explicit solution for a non linear differential equation w...

Abstract — A semilinear second-order singularly perturbed parabolic equation in one space dimension is considered. For this equation, we give computable a posteriori error estimates in the maximum norm for a difference scheme that uses Backward-Euler in time and central differencing in space. Sharp L1-norm bounds for the Green’s function of the parabolic operator and its derivatives are derived...
