Introdution: The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of miR-143 on the expression of Bcl2 gene at the level of mRNA, cell cytotoxicity in the SaOs-2 cell line (Osteosarcoma) and Hum 63 (Human primary bone cells). Methods: In this experimental study, miR-143 was introduced into the SaOs-2  and Hum 63 cell by the lipofectam 2000 system. Then, the effects of miR-143 on cytotoxicity...

Background: The lipodystrophic syndrome (LD) is a disorder resulting from selective damage of adipose tissue by antiretroviral drugs included in therapy controlling human-immunodeficiencyvirus-1. In the therapy cocktail the nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI) contribute to the development of this syndrome. Cellular target of NRTI was identified as the mitochondrial polymerase-gam...

In the course of screening search for plant growth regulators, a culture filtrate of Streptomyces graminofaciens 3C02 was found to inhibit the growth of lettuce seedlings. The active substances, named rotihibin A (1) and B (2), were revealed to be lipo-peptidal compounds. Rotihibins inhibit growth of various plants at below 1 microgram/ml, but do not show lethal activity even at higher doses.

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have circumvented the energy storage landscape for decades. However, safety concerns about liquid–electrolyte-based LIBs challenged their mobilization. Lithium polymer (LiPo) gained rising interest due to high thermal stability. Despite an array of commercially available LiPo batteries, limited studies ventured into modeling. Numerical simulations allow low-cost opt...

Immuno-modulators in combination with antileishmanial drug miltefosine is a better therapeutic approach for treatment of Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) as it not only reduces the dose of miltefosine but also shortens the treatment regimen. However, immunological mechanisms behind the perceived benefits of this combination therapy have not been investigated in detail. In the present study, we hypot...

Isosteviol (ISV), a diterpene molecule, is an isomer of the backbone structure of a group of substances with proven antidiabetic capabilities. The aim of this study was to investigate if ISV elicits dynamic insulin release from pancreatic islets and concomitantly is able to ameliorate gluco-, lipo-, and aminoacidotoxicity in clonal β-cell line (INS-1E) in relation to cell viability and insulin ...

In this placebo-controlled phase II randomized clinical trial, we evaluated the safety and immunogenicity of a therapeutic prime-boost vaccine strategy using recombinant DNA (GTU-MultiHIV B clade) followed by boost vaccination with lipopeptide (HIV-LIPO-5) in HIV-infected patients on combined antiretroviral therapy. We show here that is well tolerated, consistently previous studies HIV-1-infect...

Femoral subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) appears to be cardioprotective compared with abdominal SAT, possibly through better triglyceride (TG) sequestration. We hypothesized that removal of femoral SAT would increase postprandial TG through a reduction in dietary fatty acid (FA) storage. Normal-weight (means ± SD; BMI 23.9 ± 2.6 kg/m(2)) women (n = 29; age 45 ± 6 yr) were randomized to femoral...
