The aim of this study was evaluation of frequency of mediastinal masses according to the location, pathologic findings, and ages of them.Materials & Methods: This retrospective and descriptive study was done wi...
there has been a highly significant increase in the number of patients with malignant mediastinal tumors in the last four decades. since these lesions are infrequently encountered and there are very few reports in iran concerning this issue, we performed this study to review our institutional experience of medias-tinal masses and to compare differences in the clinical spectrum between our study...
Hydatid disease is a parasitic disease caused by the larval form of Echinococcus granulosus. Most common sites are liver, lungs, and brain. The disease is rarely present in the mediastinum. We report the rare instance of a 52-year-old female who presented with hydatid disease in the uncommon location of posterior mediastinum.
Teratoma of mediastinum is rare germ cell tumor. Anterior mediastinum is the most common extragonadal site. Benign mediastinal teratoma accounts for 60% of all mediastinal germ cell tumors. Benign mature teratoma has excellent prognosis after surgical excision. We present a case of 20-year-old woman diagnosed as benign mature teratoma which compressed main pulmonary trunk. The patient underwent...
Primary hyperparathyroidism is defined by elevated parathyroid hormone and calcium levels, most usually caused a adenoma. We presented example 73-year-old woman who was found to have hypercalcemia during...
Thymoma is a term that should be restricted to neoplasms of thymic epithelial cells, irrespective of the presence or the number of lymphocytes. The usual location of thymoma is the antrosuperior mediastinum; however, this tumor can also occur in other mediastinal compartments, in the neck, within the thyroid gland, in the pericardial cavity, the pulmonary hilum, within the lung parenchyma, o...
Our case had many unusual features. The site of occurrence of this tumor in the mediastinum is exceedingly rare. To the best of our knowledge, only one more case has been described in the mediastinum. CD34 negativity on IHC is also uncom mon. The closest differential diagnosis in our case is the SFT. But in our case, the architectural pattern was typical of lipomatous hemangiopericytoma and wa...
Although mature teratomas are a common cause of anterior mediastinal tumors, they rarely arise in other mediastinal compartments. We describe a 16-year-old boy with a 20×10 cm mature cystic teratoma in the posterior mediastinum. This case emphasizes the importance of correct diagnosis if a mediastinal mass with the typical features of a mature teratoma-such as fat, cystic compartments, calcific...
