The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is designed as an architecture independent interface for parallel programming in the shared-nothing, message passing paradigm. We briefly summarize basic requirements to a high-quality implementation of MPI for efficient programming of SMP clusters and related architectures, and discuss possible, mild extensions of the topology functionality of MPI, which, wh...

A message-passing based search algorithm for cycles in a Tanner graph is proposed for designing good lowdensity parity-check (LDPC) codes. By applying the message-passing algorithm with only two message alphabets to a cycle search, we can easily perform the cycle search for a good LDPC code with an existing message-passing decoder.

In message passing programs, once a process terminates with an unexpected error, the terminated process can propagate the error to the rest of processes through communication dependencies, resulting in a program failure. Therefore, to locate faults, developers must identify the group of processes involved in the original error and faulty processes that activate faults. This paper presents a nov...

Parallel programs are typically written in an explicitly parallel fashion using either message passing or shared memory primitives. Message passing is attractive for performance and portability since shared memory machines can eeciently execute message passing programs, however message passing machines cannot in general eeectively execute shared memory programs. In order to write a parallel pro...

When defining an object-oriented extension to VHDL, the necessary message passing is one of the most complex issues and has a large impact on the whole language. This paper identifies the requirements for message passing suited to model hardware and classifies different approaches. To allow abstract communication and reuse of protocols on system level, a new, flexible message passing mechanism ...

Several message passing-based parallel solvers have been developed for general (nonsymmetric) sparse LU factorization with partial pivoting. Existing solvers were mostly deployed and evaluated on parallel computing platforms with high message passing performance (e.g., 1–10 μs in message latency and 100–1000 Mbytes/sec in message throughput) while little attention has been paid on slower platfo...

In [Cza 2006] fix-point equations specifying synchronous (”hand-shaking”) communication in distributed systems have been proposed. Their solution yielded a communication network of agents, directly presented as a Petri net-like structure, and determined the global state of the specified system. The net-places represented agents, while transitions transfer of messages. A special algebra being a ...

Algorithms are operational building-blocks of a network. An important class of network algorithms deal with the scheduling of common resources among various entities such as packets or flows. In a generic setup, such algorithms operate under stringent hardware, time, power or energy constraints. Therefore, algorithms have to be extremely simple, lightweight in data-structure and distributed. Th...

Communicating and sharing intelligence among agents is an important facet of achieving Artificial General Intelligence. As a first step towards this challenge, we introduce a novel framework for image generation: Message Passing Multi-Agent Generative Adversarial Networks (MPM GANs). While GANs have recently been shown to be very effective for image generation and other tasks, these networks ha...
