background carbapenemes are a good choice for treatment of infections caused by multidrug resistant pseudomonads aeruginosa. the emergence of carbapenem resistance has become a major problem in treatment of this organism especially among immunocompromised patients including burn patients. objectives the aim of this study was to investigate carbapenem-resistance mechanisms among burn patients in...

The New Delhi Metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) resistance mechanism in Enterobacteriaceae threatens to render serious Gram-negative infections untreatable. The NDM-1 enzyme hydrolyses all available penicillin, cephalosporin and carbapenem antibiotics, and is commonly accompanied by additional resistance mechanisms to multiple antibiotic classes. Initially identified as a significant healthcare risk on...

Since the first isolation in 2002, the metallo-β-lactamase GIM-1 has not been detected outside Germany. The data presented here, for 50 clinical blaGIM-1-positive isolates, including Pseudomonas spp. and Enterobacteriaceae (Enterobacter cloacae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Serratia marcescens, Escherichia coli, and Citrobacter freundii), collected between 2007 and 2012 at the original site in an ongoin...

An environmental isolate of Serratia fonticola resistant to carbapenems was shown to contain a genetic determinant encoding a metallo-beta-lactamase of the subclass B2. The Sfh-I enzyme exhibits some divergence from the previously characterized enzymes of this subclass. This is the first example of a naturally occurring metallo-beta-lactamase in Enterobacteriaceae.
