The turbomachinery systems on oil platforms are extremely sensitive, as their failure can cause total shutdown of the platform's production activity. Scheduled stoppages for preventive maintenance are effective, since qualified personnel and replacement parts are available and ready. On the other hand, shutting down a turbo machine ceases petroleum production. Not rarely, maintenance people con...

Between 1975 and 1997, school teacher bargaining was conducted under the School Boards and Teachers Collective Negotiations Act (Bill 100). By most accounts, the teacher bargaining law was successful in promoting bilateral settlements with minimal strike activity. Following its election in 1995, the Harris government reduced public expenditures and introduced educational reforms. In doing so, i...

Deuterium quadrupole NMR line shapes were simulated to match experimental spectra of liquid crystalline phases observed in the cesium and sodium n-tetradecanoate-Dz0 systems. The line shapes of single-phase samples with both uniaxial and biaxial symmetry were accurately simulated. Line shape simulations were matched to experimental spectra by minimizing the sum of squared residuals on the basis...

We examine the problem of pushing all the points of a planar region into one point using parallel sweeps of an infinite line, minimizing the sum of the lengths of the sweep vectors. We characterize the optimal 2-sweeps of triangles, and provide a linear-time algorithm for convex polygons.

We consider the scheduling problem of minimizing the average-weighted completion time on identical parallel machines when jobs are arriving over time. For both the preemptive and the nonpreemptive setting, we show that straightforward extensions of Smith’s ratio rule yield smaller competitive ratios than the previously best-known deterministic on-line algorithms. c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. We consider the scheduling problem of minimizing the makespan on a single machine with step-improving job processing times around a common critical date. For this problem we give an NP-hardness proof, a fast pseudo-polynomial time algorithm, an FPTAS, and an on-line algorithm with best possible competitive ratio.

Placing shields around a victim signal line is a common way to enhance signal integrity while minimizing delay uncertainty. An analytic model of the peak noise is developed for shielded interconnects based on a model. A design methodology for inserting shields between coupled interconnects to reduce crosstalk noise is presented.

Performance properties of list scheduling algorithms under various dynamic assumptions are analyzed. The focus is on bounds for scheduling directed acyclic graphs with arbitrary precedence constrains and arbitrary task processing times subject to minimizing the makespan. New performance bounds are derived and compared with known results. key words: list scheduling, worst case analysis, on-line ...

The economic reactivation has taken on great importance in the face of COVID-19 pandemic throughout world, as it is paralyzed by its rapid spread. objective this paper to analyze from different theoretical positions issue industrial sector, and how can be influenced ideals. This due main implications that have arisen, affecting work stoppages accelerated infections. Therefore, a approach will c...
