A hybrid damper concept is presented here using a combination of Magnetorheological (MR) Fluid (MRF) and Shape Memory Alloy (SMA)-based energy dissipation. demonstration performed utilizing the shear operating mode MRF one-way effect SMA. The damping performance different MRF-SMA configurations investigated corresponding consumption evaluated. We demonstrate that operation SMA dampers complemen...

We describe a fully-automatic three-dimensional (3-D)-segmentation technique for brain magnetic resonance (MR) images. By means of Markov random fields (MRF’s) the segmentation algorithm captures three features that are of special importance for MR images, i.e., nonparametric distributions of tissue intensities, neighborhood correlations, and signal inhomogeneities. Detailed simulations and rea...

Magnetorheo]ogical (MR) fluids are colloidal suspensions of pammagnetic particles in a non-magnetic fluid. These fluids, along with their electrical analogues, electrorheologica] (ER) fluids, have been proposed as controllable fluids, for use in electromechanical devices such as dampers, clutches and brakes. [1] When exposed to an external magnetic field, the particles acquire dipole moments ag...

INTRODUCTION The purpose of this project was to evaluate the role of MR antagonists as an adjunct in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) who have chronic subretinal fluid. METHODS Inclusion criteria were patients with a diagnosis of neovascular AMD, who had completed at least six anti-VEGF injections, and had persistent subretinal fluid (SRF) on optical coherence ...

BACKGROUND The optimal control of blood volume without fluid overload is a main challenge in the daily care of intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Accordingly this study focused on the identification of biomarkers to help characterize fluid overload status. METHODS Sixty-seven patients were studied from ICU admission to day 7 (D7). Blood and urine samples were taken daily and sodium and water...

UNLABELLED With the recent advent of integrated PET/MR hybrid systems, the need for simultaneous PET and MR phantom measurements arises. Phantom fluids that are used in stand-alone MR systems, especially in larger phantoms and at a high magnetic field strength, are not necessarily applicable in PET imaging and vice versa. In this study, different approaches to fluid selection were considered an...

We have recently introduced a methodology to determine the average velocity and flow behavior index of laminar pipe power-law fluid using simple magnetic resonance (MR) techniques. In general, MR techniques are noninvasive capable working on optically opaque fluids. Knowledge provides information needed reconstruct profile. However, as increases, will begin develop turbulence. For particular fl...

Aim: To identify immunodominant proteins of cystic fluid antigens and whole cyst lysate antigens of Cysticercus tenuicollis, the larval stage of the canine tapeworm Taenia hydatigena. Materials and Methods: Three numbers of cysts of C. tenuicollis were collected from the mesentry of small intestine of goats after slaughter. C. tenuicollis cysts of each sample were washed thoroughly with PBS (pH...

background: accurate brain tissue segmentation from magnetic resonance (mr) images is an important step in analysis of cerebral images. there are software packages which are used for brain segmentation. these packages usually contain a set of skull stripping, intensity non-uniformity (bias) correction and segmentation routines. thus, assessment of the quality of the segmented gray matter (gm), ...

The case of a 55-year-old immunocompetent woman with central nervous system cryptococcosis and multiple intraventricular cysts is presented. The cysts did not enhance on MR and had signal characteristics similar to cerebrospinal fluid on T1- and T2-weighted images; their intensity was lower than cerebrospinal fluid on proton density-weighted images.
