A superhydrophobic surface has many advantages in micro/nanomechanical applications, such as low adhesion, low friction and high restitution coefficient, etc. In this paper, we introduce a novel and simple route to fabricate superhydrophobic surfaces using ZnO nanocrystals. First, tetrapod-like ZnO nanocrystals were prepared via a one-step, direct chemical vapor deposition (CVD) approach. The n...

Six hundred 1-d old male broilers (Ross 308) were assigned into four experimental groups; each was composed of 5replications of 30 birds including control (0), 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg nano-ZnO in the basal diets. Birds were exposed to low ambient temperature (15 to 18 ˚C) to induce ascites. Blood parameters including; activity of aspartate transferase (AST), alanine transferase (ALT), lactate dehyd...

Nano is an advanced technology which in recent years has had numerous applications in different fields such as industry, biotechnology, energy, environment and etc. In this paper, ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by simple method of precipitation sounds more plausible. ZnSO4 and NH4OH were used as precursors to yield ZnO powders. The synthesized ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray d...

In this study, cellulose nanocrystals/zinc oxide (CNCs/ZnO) nanocomposites were dispersed as bifunctional nano-sized fillers into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and chitosan (Cs) blend by a solvent casting method to prepare PVA/Cs/CNCs/ZnO bio-nanocomposites films. The morphology, thermal, mechanical and UV-vis absorption properties, as well antimicrobial effects of the bio-nanocomposite films were ...

Ever since the discovery of the pH-sensing properties of ZnO crystals, researchers have been exploring their potential in electrochemical applications. The recent expansion and availability of chemical modification methods has made it possible to generate a new class of electrochemically active ZnO nanorods. This reduction in size of ZnO (to a nanocrystalline form) using new growth techniques i...

The ZnO nanostructures consisting of micro spheres in a network of nano wires were synthesized by direct vapor phase method. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy measurements were carried out to understand the chemical nature of the sample. ZnO nanostructures exhibited band edge luminescence at 383 nm. The nanostructure based ZnO thin films were used to fabricate UV sensors. The photoresponse measu...

BACKGROUND Photo-degradation of organic contaminants into non-hazardous mineral compounds is emerging as a strategy to purify water and environment. Tremendous research is being done using direct solar light for these purposes. In this paper we report on optimum conditions for complete mineralization of aqueous methyl orange using lab-prepared ZnO nanopowder catalyst under simulated solar light...

Nano-ZnO has been successfully implemented in particles, rods, and tubes nanostructures via sol-gel and hydrothermal techniques. The variation of the different preparation parameters such as reaction temperature, time, and stabilizer agents was optimized to attain different morphological structures. The influence of the microwave annealing process on ZnO crystallinity, surface area, and morphol...

OBJECTIVE Nano components are today's new wonder material. However, the safety or toxicity of these components in humans is not yet clear. In a previous study we indicated that nano ZnO (nZnO) has a stronger anxiolytic effect compared to the conventional ZnO (cZnO). The present study was designed to evaluate the intraperitoneal administration of an opioidergic receptor agonist and antagonist of...

A novel one-step coating and assembly approach for fabricating well-defined ZnO nanodot/SiO₂ nanorod arrays by hydrolysis-recrystallization growth from 1-D ZnO nanorods is described. The resultant composite nanorod arrays exhibit much enhanced UV emission efficiencies and excellent stability, and thus offer particular promise for application in UV emission devices operating in harsh environments.
