In the title compound, C(10)H(12)N(2)OS, the amide NCO group is twisted relative to the thio-ureido SCN(2) group, forming a dihedral angle of 55.3 (2)°. The crystal packing shows inter-molecular N-H⋯S and weak C-H⋯O inter-actions, the former giving rise to the formation of centrosymmetric R(2) (2)(8) dimers.

Two new end-to-end (EE) cyanate bridged 1D coordination polymers of Ni(II) are isolated which contain linear (180°) Ni-N-C and Ni-O-C angles in Ni-NCO-Ni bridges and show ferromagnetic (F) coupling in agreement with the reported theoretical model for linear EE bridges.

Reaction of nickel(II) chloride with sodium cyanate and 2,6-di-methyl-pyrazine leads to single crystals of the title com-pound, [Ni(NCO)(2)(C(6)H(8)N(2))(4)]. The nickel(II) cation is located about a centre of inversion and is octa-hedrally coordinated by two cyanate anions and four 2,6-dimethyl-pyrazine ligands, forming discrete complexes.
