Peripheral nerve sheath tumors are benign tumors that have the potential to transform into malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs). Interleukin-13 receptor alpha 2 (IL13Rα2) is a cancer associated receptor expressed in glioblastoma and other invasive cancers. We analyzed IL13Rα2 expression in several MPNST cell lines including the STS26T cell line, as well as in several peripheral ner...

Schwannomas arising from vagus nerve sheath are rare mediastinal neurogenic tumours. Schwannomas usually arise from left hemithorax. Unlike a hamartoma, radiologically, calcification is rarely seen in schwannomas. We present the rare case of an ancient schwannoma arising from vagus nerve sheath from the right hemithorax presenting with gross calcification.

The records of all patients undergoing optic nerve sheath decompression for visual failure in chronic raised intracranial pressure performed over a 15 year period have been reviewed. The aim was to study the visual outcome and relation to any shunting procedures. Fourteen patients (20 eyes) were identified in whom follow up information of at least one year was available. Eleven patients had ben...

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors of the scalp are rare lesions of the nervous system. Only 16 cases have been reported to date. In this report, we present a case of a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) of the scalp and retrospectively analyze the clinical features, imaging findings, pathological features, and prognoses of these tumors.

We present the case of a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour (MPNST) that developed on the upper lip of an 86 year old woman. MPNSTs are highly aggressive sarcomas that very rarely occur in the face. We know of no other reported cases of a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour arising from the upper lip.

BACKGROUND Positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) can increase intracranial pressure. Pneumoperitoneum and the Trendelenburg position are associated with an increased intracranial pressure. We investigated whether PEEP ventilation could additionally influence the sonographic optic nerve sheath diameter as a surrogate for intracranial pressure during pneumoperitoneum combined with the Trendelen...

Neuregulin-1 (NRG1) plays a crucial role in axoglial signaling during the development of the peripheral nervous system, but its importance in adulthood after peripheral nerve injury remains unclear. We used single-neuron labeling with inducible Cre-mediated knock-out animals, which enabled visualization of a subset of adult myelinated sensory and motoneurons neurons in which Nrg1 was inducibly ...

Introduction  Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring is a vital element in the diagnosis and management of several neurological disorders, such as head injury, hydrocephalus, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracranial hematoma.  The optic nerve sheath direct contact with space. This relationship provides physiological foundation for using to assess pressure. Since loosely attached nerve, space thi...

BACKGROUND There is not any data available about the effect of high bar pressure condition on intracranial pressure. In this study, the effect of diving on the optic nerve and sheath diameters as non-invasive markers of intracranial pressure has been investigated. METHODS Twenty professional male divers from twenty one volunteers were chosen for this cross-sectional study. Only one person who...

Aging of the nervous system leads to impairments in cognition and motor skills, and is a major risk factor for several neurological disorders. Recently, numerous nerve function deficits that appear with aging have been found to be a consequence of myelin abnormalities; however, the genetic mechanism of the age‑related alterations in the myelin sheath has not yet been fully elucidated. In the pr...
