The aim of the study was to select microbiological inoculants for a specific plant species, i.e., white lupine (Lupinus albus L.), increase efficiency diazotroph process. research involved an in vitro assessment interactions between symbiotic bacteria (Bradyrhizobium sp. isolated from Nitragina and Nitroflora commercial preparations dedicated lupine) selected endophytes (Pseudomonas fluorescens...
Seven diazotrophs that grow well under Mo-deficient, N(2)-fixing conditions were isolated from a variety of environments. These isolates fall in the gamma subdivision of the class Proteobacteria and have genes that encode the Mo nitrogenase (nitrogenase 1) and the V nitrogenase (nitrogenase 2). Four of the isolates also harbor genes that encode the iron-only nitrogenase (nitrogenase 3).
The acetylene reduction assay was used to determine nitrogenase activity in a waterlogged soil-straw system. Nitrogenase activity was related to the number of nitrogen-fixing clostridia. The patterns of respiration, microbial numbers, and nitrogenase activity indicated a change in the microbial activity at about the 8th day of incubation. This was attributed to the sequential use of the differe...
Photoproduction of H2 and activation of H2 for CO2 reduction (photoreduction) by Rhodopseudomonas capsulata are catalyzed by different enzyme systems. Formation of H2 from organic compounds is mediated by nitrogenase and is nto inhibited by an atmosphere of 99% H2. Cells grown photoheterotrophically on C4 dicarboxylic acids (with glutamate as N source) evolve H2 from the C4 acids and also from ...
Cultures of Anabaena cylindrica, grown on media containing 5 m M NH4C1 (which represses heterocyst formation), evolved hydrogen after a period of dark incubation under an argon atmosphere. This hydrogen production was not due to nitrogenase activity, which was nearly undetectable, but was due to a hydrogenase. Cultures grown on media with tungsten substituted for molybdenum had a high frequency...
Root nodules were harvested from chamber-grown soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill cv Woodworth) plants throughout development. Apparent nitrogenase activity (acetylene reduction) peaked before seeds began to develop, but a significant amount of activity remained as the seeds matured. Nodule senescence was defined as the period in which residual nitrogenase activity was lost. During this time, solu...
