Freshly prepared ZnO nanoparticles were used as an effective heterogeneous base catalyst for the synthesis of aryloximes. The conversion of arylaldehydes and arylketones into the corresponding oximes (up to quantitative yields) was achieved by simply mixing the liquid reactants and hydroxylamine hydrochloride with ZnO nanoparticles under solvent-free condition. The procedure was carried out und...

Oximes and diynes undergo efficient cycloaddition in the presence of a catalytic amount of a cationic rhodium(I)/dppf complex (see scheme). Spontaneous dehydration of the initially formed cycloadducts leads to the formation of a variety of substituted pyridines in moderate to good yields. The transformation could also be achieved in a one-pot procedure using aldehydes.

A novel catalytic system consisting of I2-SDS-H2O has been developed which cleaves 2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene, 1-aza-1,3-butadienes, oximes and in presence of indoles in the medium uses the corresponding aldehyde products to produce bis(indolyl)alkanes in situ. This one pot simple and mild dual catalytic system works in water at room temperature under neutral conditions.

Substituted pyrrolines are available by ring closure initiated by direct nucleophilic attack of stabilized enolates at the nitrogen of oximes activated with a leaving group, in a process which effectively out-competes the more usual Beckmann rearrangement. Subsequent reduction provides diastereoselective access to the corresponding pyrrolidines. This provides a rapid route to saturated heterocy...

The synthesis of pyridines from readily available α,β-unsaturated oximes and alkynes under mild conditions and low temperatures using Rh(III) catalysis has been developed. It was found that the use of sterically different ligands allows for complementary selectivities to be achieved.

Two complementary procedures have been developed for the conversion of the oximes of alpha-aryl ketones to azirines. On heating, the azirines rearrange smoothly to the corresponding indoles. The overall transformation offers a versatile route to indoles, complementary to the Fischer indole synthesis.

A series of three para-benzoquinone mono-oximes and four oxy-derivatives were prepared and tested for their antidepressant properties. The (4E) oxime of 2-isopropyl-5-methyl-para-benzoquinone (4) and the corresponding 2-diethylamino-ethyl derivative (10) present antidepressant activities and were slightly more potent than the reference standard.
