Spontaneous Achilles tendon rupture poses a reconstruction problem of great clinical interest because this is the third most common tendon tear 1, and its correction involves the orthopedic surgeon. It occurs mainly in men with a sedentary lifestyle and generally aged between 40 and 50 years, though it can also occur in individuals who exercise regularly and in top-level athletes.Various mechan...

PURPOSE To evaluate the operative findings and postoperative results of one-stage repair on patients with acromioclavicular joint dislocation complicated by rotator cuff tear. METHODS Between 1992 and 1999, one-stage repair was performed on 5 patients with acromioclavicular joint dislocation complicated by rotator cuff tears. Modified Cadenat procedure for acromioclavicular joint dislocation,...

BACKGROUND A familial predisposition to the development of rotator cuff tearing has been previously reported. Very little information exists on the development of global tendon dysfunction in patients with rotator cuff tears. The purpose of the current study was to determine the incidence of global tendon dysfunction as well as the need for surgery for tendon dysfunction in patients with rotato...

The authors report a case of a 47-year-old professional driver with an acute, simultaneous tear of patellar tendon and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The patient was treated in two stages. Acute patellar tendon repair and delayed (6-month postinjury) ACL reconstruction was performed. The authors discuss the possible mechanism of injury and the rationality of the two-stage surgical treatment.

The simultaneous diagnosis of ipsilateral patellar tendon rupture and anterior cruciate ligament tear is rare. Surgical repair is complicated by different rehabilitation regimens as well as anterior cruciate ligament graft choices. We present a case where at the same operative setting, the patellar tendon was repaired, and the anterior cruciate ligament reconstructed with autologous hamstring g...

Rotator cuff tear is one of the most common types of shoulder injuries, often resulting in pain and physical debilitation. Allogeneic tendon-derived decellularized matrices do not have appropriate pore size and porosity to facilitate cell infiltration, while commercially-available synthetic scaffolds are often inadequate at inducing tenogenic differentiation. The aim of this study is to develop...

INTRODUCTION: Subscapularis (SSC) tendon tear is detected in about 20-40% of the patients with rotator cuff tear during surgery. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans have been used as a diagnostic tool for predicting the presence of SSC tear. But it is difficult to diagnose the SSC tear correctly. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the significance of various preoperative MRI findings t...

The formation of fibrocartilage at the healing site following a rotator cuff tear repair is a major problem in the field of tendon‑bone healing. The present study aimed to enhance the healing of the tendon‑bone interface following rotator‑cuff tear repair by the interposition of hydroxyapatite (HA) encapsulated with transforming growth factor β1 (TGFβ1). Using an acute rotator cuff repair model...

BACKGROUND Operative repair of distal biceps tendon ruptures has shown successful outcomes. However, little is known about the amount of tendon or repair site lengthening after repair. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS The purpose of this study was to evaluate distal biceps tendon repair via intratendinous radiostereometric analysis to analyze tendon lengthening at different time intervals of healing. The h...
