oxidative stability of walnut (juglansregia l.) was evaluated over a period of 1 year storage in various conditions. the whole walnuts, walnut kernels, walnut chopped kernels, walnut kernels packaged in polyethylene (pet) under vacuum and poly propylene (pp) contain of co2 were kept in a normal condition (temperature, 19-30˚с and relative humidity (rh), 35-45%). the whole walnuts and walnut ker...

Phytophthora stem and root rot, caused by Phytophthora sojae, is one of the most destructive diseases of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.], and the incidence of this disease has been increasing in several soybean-producing areas around the world. This presents serious limitations for soybean production, with yield losses from 4 to 100%. The most effective method to reduce damage would be to grow...

Oomycetes in the genus Phytophthora are among the most damaging plant pathogens worldwide. Two important species are Phytophthora cinnamomi, which causes root rot in thousands of native and agricultural plants, and Phytophthora agathidicida, which causes kauri dieback disease in New Zealand. As is the case for other Phytophthora species, management options for these two pathogens are limited. H...

The recent incidence of Ramorum blight, caused by Phytophthora ramorum, on many nursery crops has focused attention on improving management strategies against Phytophthora diseases in nurseries. We evaluated several chemical agents that target Oomycete pathogens for their capacity to inhibit infection of rhododendron or lilac leaves by P. ramorum (both NA strain 2027 mating type A2 and European...

A sensitive qualitative detection method for walnut (Juglans regia) using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was developed. For detection of walnuts with high specificity, the primer pair WAL-F/WAL-R was designed based on walnut matK genes. Trace amounts of walnuts in commercial food products can be qualitatively detected using this method.

Agrobacterium tumefaciens biovar 1 strain 186 was isolated from a walnut tree expressing crown gall symptoms. The draft genome sequence of this strain harbored genes for crown gall formation and will be useful for understanding its virulence on Paradox, the predominant hybrid rootstock used for the cultivation of English walnut in California.

AIM This study was carried out to investigate the effect of incorporation of different level of walnut cake in concentrate mixture on in vitro dry matter degradation in order to determine its level of supplementation in ruminant ration. MATERIALS AND METHODS Walnut cake was used @ 0, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30% level to formulate an iso-nitrogenous concentrate mixtures and designated as T1, T2, T3...

Studies indicate a positive association between walnut intake and improvements in plasma lipids. We evaluated the effect of an isocaloric replacement of macronutrients with walnuts and the time point of consumption on plasma lipids. We included 194 healthy subjects (134 females, age 63 ± 7 years, BMI 25.1 ± 4.0 kg/m²) in a randomized, controlled, prospective, cross-over study. Following a nut-f...

Successful invasive species often are established for a long time period before increasing exponentially in abundance. This lag phase is one of the least understood phenomena of biological invasions. Plant invasions depend on three factors: a seed source, suitable habitat and a seed disperser. The non-native walnut, Juglans regia, has been planted for centuries in Central Europe but, until rece...
