The first order QED corrections to the polarized muon decay spectrum are considered. The exact dependence on electron and muon masses is kept. Numerical results are presented.

The top quark is expected to decay as a free particle with definite momentum and polarization. Here we consider the possibilities to obtain information about its polarization through the energy and angular distributions of the b-quarks from the decay of the top-quarks produced in e + e − annihilation. Analytic expressions and numerical estimates for different beam polarizations are derived.

The general analysis of lepton polarization asymmetries in rare B → K∗l+l− decay is investigated. Using the most general, model independent effective Hamiltonian, the general expressions of the longitudinal, normal and transversal polarization asymmetries for l and l+ and combinations of them are presented. The dependence of lepton polarizations and their combinations on new Wilson coefficients...

Bivariate signals arise in many fields such as oceanography, seismology or radar. A bivariate signal (e.g. the electromagnetic wave field) can be either described by a time-evolving real vector [u(t), v(t)] or equivalently by the complex signal x(t) = u(t)+ iv(t), where u(t), v(t) are its components. In many applications, extracting physically interpretable parameters (e.g. polarization propert...

There is growing interest in producing intense, coherent x-ray radiation with an adjustable and arbitrary polarization state. The crossed-planar undulator, which was first proposed by Kim, could achieve rapid polarization control in synchrotron radiation sources and free electron lasers (FELs) through the manipulation of a phase shifter. Recently, a statistical analysis shows that a polarizatio...

Vectorial vortex analysis is used to determine the polarization states of an arbitrarily polarized terahertz (0.1-1.6 THz) beam using THz achromatic axially symmetric wave (TAS) plates, which have a phase retardance of Δ = 163° and are made of polytetrafluorethylene. Polarized THz beams are converted into THz vectorial vortex beams with no spatial or wavelength dispersion, and the unknown polar...

The role of spontaneous and piezoelectric polarization in III–V nitride heterostructures is investigated. Polarization effects and crystal polarity are reviewed in the context of nitride heterostructure materials and device design, and a detailed analysis of their influence in nitride heterostructure field-effect transistors is presented. The combined effects of spontaneous and piezoelectric po...

In this paper, we study the effects of turbulent atmosphere on the degree of polarization of a partially coherent electromagnetic beam, which propagates through it. The beam is described by a 2 × 2 cross-spectral density matrix and is assumed to be generated by a planar, secondary, electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model source. The analysis is based on a recently formulated unified theory of coh...

We present an approach to recovering scenes deteriorated by reflections off a semi-reflecting medium. The approach is based on imaging through a polarizer at two different orientations. We analyze the image-formation process, taking into account changes in reflection and polarization properties owing to internal reflections within the medium. Reconstruction by inverting this process requires es...

A new method of polarized light analysis is described in which a highly sensitive electronic detector specific for birefringence is used to identify the crystalline axes of an object and then measure its phase retardation due to birefringence. The microscopic system employed in the method consists of an electronic birefringence detection system (BDS), a microscope with strain-free lenses, and a...
