Binary-encoded poly(alkoxyamine amide)s were prepared by oligomer ligation. These polymers contain digital sequences based on two monomers defined as 0 and 1 bits. A library of oligomers containing all possible dyads 00, 01, 10 and 11 was prepared and used to construct long coded sequences.

Headed for a membrane: Continuous, polycrystalline ZIF-90 membranes (picture, left) can be grown at 65 °C from methanolic precursor solutions on nanocrystal-seeded surfaces of poly(amide-imide) macroporous hollow fibers (right). The ZIF-90 membranes exhibit good separation properties for linear over cyclic hydrocarbons, as well as gas permeation selectivities higher than Knudsen values.

Poly(aryl ether amide) containing o-nitroanilide forms a physical gel in polar aprotic solvents by solvent-induced change of hydrogen bonding modes, in which hydrogen bonding acceptor solvent molecules break intramolecular hydrogen bonding of o-nitroanilide and induce intermolecular hydrogen bonding.

A self-assembled poly(amide-triazole) physical gel (1) was found to show responsive behaviour towards halide anions, while the corresponding monomeric (2) and dimeric homologues (3) were non-gelating. In the presence of halide anions, polymer gel 1 collapsed to become a solution, but could be restored back to the gel state after addition of a AgNO3 salt.
