The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial and antifungal properties of polyether impression materials using the agar diffusion test. Three different types of polyether impression materials (P2, Penta Soft and Penta) were tested to determine their ability to inhibit the growth of Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. The areas o...

Highly concentrated Li salt/aprotic solvent solutions are promising electrolytes for next-generation batteries. Understanding the Li+ ion transport process is crucial designing novel battery electrolytes. In this study, we systematically investigated phase behavior, solvate structures, and properties of binary mixtures comprising lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide (LiTFSA) various sulfo...

The polyketide backbone of the polyether ionophore antibiotic nanchangmycin (1) is assembled by a modular polyketide synthase in Streptomyces nanchangensis NS3226. The ACP-bound polyketide is thought to undergo a cascade of oxidative cyclizations to generate the characteristic polyether. Deletion of the glycosyl transferase gene nanG5 resulted in accumulation of the corresponding nanchangmycin ...

PURPOSE This study compared polyvinylsiloxane with polyether in handling dental impressions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Each participant (N = 39) made four impressions, each a combination of pickup and reseating techniques with polyether or polyvinylsiloxane, of one implant cast representing a specific clinical situation (tooth gaps, limited residual dentition, or edentulous jaw). Handling of impr...

BACKGROUND The most deadly form of cancer is not lung or colon, breast or prostate; it is any cancer that has become metastatic. Mortality due to metastatic melanoma, one of the most aggressive and deadly cancers, has increased steadily over the last several decades. Unfortunately, the arsenal of chemotherapeutic agents available today is most often unsuccessful at extending and improving the l...

marine polyether ladders (Figure 1 and Figure 2) can be grouped into 14 backbone structures and has gained much notoriety in being responsible for countless cases of human food poisoning and massive fish kills. Maitotoxin itself displays the highest toxicity of any nonproteinaceous natural product isolated thus far. The biogenesis of the polyether ladders, whilst attracting speculation, has adv...

Ionomycin, a new polyether antibiotic with a high affinity for calcium ions, is obtained in pure form from fermentation broths of Streptomyces conglobatus sp. nov. Trejo by solvent extraction. It is unique amongst known polyether antibiotics in that it has a UV absorption maximum at 300 nm. thereby distinguishing it from other antibiotics of its class. The Ca salt has the molecular formula C41H...

The first syntheses of two quinoline alkaloids found in the medicinal herb Ruta chalepensis are reported via the conjugate addition of an o-iodoaniline to an acetylenic sulfone, followed by Pd-catalyzed carbonylation, intramolecular acylation of the corresponding sulfone-stabilized carbanion, and reductive desulfonylation.

Failure of sulfa or sulfone prophylaxis is associated with mutations in Pneumocystis carinii gene coding for dihydropteroate synthase (DHPS). The DHPS genotype was analyzed in AIDS patients who had two separate episodes of P. carinii pneumonia. The results suggest that DHPS mutations can be selected de novo within patients by the pressure of a sulfa or sulfone drug.

Three new polyether-tethered dinickel-salphen complexes (2 a-c) have been synthesized and fully characterized by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analyses. The binding affinity and selectivity of these complexes and of the parent mono-nickel complex (1) towards dimeric quadruplex DNA have been determined by UV/Vis titrations, fluorescence spectroscopy, CD spectroscopy, and ele...
