The composition of human skin acts as a natural habitat for various bacterial species that function in a commensal and symbiotic fashion. In a healthy individual, bacterial flora serves to protect the host. Under certain conditions such as minor trauma, impaired host immunity, or environmental factors, the risk of developing skin infections is increased. Although a large majority of bacterial a...

Background:Nosocomial infections due to mortality and economic costs are one of the main challenges in current century. Gram-negative bacilli infections acquired in hospitals and hospital environment is one of the most important places of residence and publication of these types of bacteria. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of gram-negative bacilli from the equipment of hospital i...

A2. This is a very interesting question. In antimicrobial research, the ability of an antibiotic to produce a three-log kill (decrease the bacterial load by three logs) is an important characteristic. In theory, if an antibiotic is able to produce a threelog kill, the host’s immune system can usually kill the remaining bacterial population. However, with an immunocompromised host, such as an HI...

ICU-acquired infections are a challenging health problem worldwide as the patient’s immunity is already compromised and these usually caused by MDR pathogens. In ICUs inanimate surfaces equipment may be contaminated bacteria. Cross-transmission of microorganisms from have significant role for infections. Contamination result HCWs hands or direct patient shedding This study was conducted to dete...

Abstract Background: Diagnosis of bacterial causes of cutaneous infections and determination of their resistance to different antibiotics is required for choosing the optimal treatment. This study was performed on bacterial cultures which were taken from patients with cutaneous infections. Materials and methods: Samples were collected from 110 patients with cutaneous infections referred to...

BACKGROUND Over the last few decades the ever-increasing level of bacterial resistance to antimicrobials has been a cause of worldwide concern. Fluoroquinolones, particularly ciprofloxacin has been used indiscriminately for both gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial infections. The increased use of ciprofloxacin has led to a progressive loss of bacterial susceptibility to this antibiotic. T...

Serum cytokine profiles were analyzed before and after infection in children with hemopathy in the bone marrow inhibition phase to explore the utility of cytokine variations for detecting infections. Serum Th1/Th2 cytokine levels, including tumor necrosis factor, interleukin (IL)-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, and interferon, were quantitatively determined by cytometric bead array technology in 480 case...

Oritavancin is an investigational lipoglycopeptide in clinical development for the treatment of acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections. In this study, we demonstrate that oritavancin causes bacterial membrane depolarization and permeabilization leading to cell death of Gram-positive pathogens and that these effects are attributable to the 4'-chlorobiphenylmethyl group of the molecule.
