Ten normotensive premature infants with idiopathic respiratory distress syndrome, and albumin concentrations of less than 30 g/l were given 5 ml/kg of 20% salt poor albumin by infusion. Concentrations measured six hours after infusion had increased significantly and these were associated with significant reduction in weight and improvement in urine output.
One hundred and fourty episodes of septicemic children seen at Songklanagarind Hospital during a period of two years were reviewed to determine factors related to mortality. Prevention of preterm birth and subsequent newborn immaturity is a primary goal of obstetrical care worldwide. Accumulated evidence shows that 1) as many as 25-50% of preterm births are caused by common genital tract infections and subsequent maternal/fetal inflammatory responses; 2) microbial and maternal host factors (phospholipases, proteases, etc.) play roles in preterm labor and preterm pr...

The 131I triiodothyronine (T3) resin uptake test reflects thyroid function more closely than other acceptable tests currently available. The T3 uptake and protein-bound iodine (PBI) level were estimated in 20 premature and 20 full-term infants at birth and at th...
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Severe sepsis represents the systemic inflammatory response resulting from an infection, associated with one of the following: cardiovascular organ dysfunction, acute respiratory distress syndrome or two or more organ dysfunctions. Blindness due to retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is an increasing problem worldwide as improved levels of neonatal care are provided in countries with developing neonatal intensive care units. The occurrence of ROP blindness varies dramatically with the socioeconomic development of a country. In regions with high levels of neonatal care and adequate resources, ROP blindness is largely restrict...
