We present a combined analysis of the BeppoSAX and ROSAT PSPC observation of the cluster of galaxies Abell 3562, a massive member of the core of the Shapley Supercluster. With a complex and interacting structure composed from two groups of galaxies and Abell 3558 to the West, the surface brightness of A3562 shows excess in the sectors to East and South when compared with an azimuthally averaged...

Recent results from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS) have shown that broad absorption line (BAL) QSOs are either highly absorbed or underluminous in the soft X-ray bandpass. Here, we extend this work by analyzing all known bona fide BALQSOs observed within the inner 20 of the ROSAT PSPC. This sample includes both targeted and serendipitous exposures ranging from 8 to 75 ksec. Despite these deep ...

In this first paper of a series we develop a new technique to analyze clusters of galaxies observed during the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS). We call this method the Steepness Ratio Technique (SRT). The SRT uses the convolution between the real RASS point-spread function and the cluster emission profile assumed to be a β-model with the β parameter fixed to the value of 2/3. From the convolved sou...

We established the catalog of X-ray point sources in the field of the Magellanic-type spiral galaxy NGC 3109 (DDO 236) from two ROSAT PSPC observations. Of the 91 X-ray sources 26 are contained within the Hi extent of NGC 3109 as derived by Jobin & Carignan (1990) with the VLA. For 10 of these we can determine accurate hardness ratios δHR2 ≤0.2. We find 3 candidate AGN, 2 candidate X-ray binari...

We have analysed archival ROSAT PSPC data for M32 in order to study the x-ray emission from this nearest elliptical galaxy. We fit spectra from three long exposures with Raymond-Smith, thermal bremsstrahlung, and power-law models. All models give excellent fits. The thermal fits have kT≈4 keV, the Raymond-Smith iron abundance is 0.4 −0.3 Solar, the power-law fit has α=1.6±0.1, and all fits have...

Results are presented from the analysis of ROSAT HRI and PSPC observations of the CNOC subsample of the EMSS high redshift galaxy clusters. X-ray surface brightness profiles of 14 clusters with 0.17 < z < 0.55 are constructed and fit to isothermal β models. Where possible, we use both the HRI and PSPC data to constrain the fit. Under the assumptions of isothermality, hydrostatic equilibrium, an...

OBJECTIVES Post-stroke cognitive dysfunction greatly influences patients' quality of life after stroke. However, its neurophysiological basis remains unknown. This study utilized resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the alterations in regional coherence in patients after subcortical stroke. METHODS Resting-state fMRI measurements were acquired from 16 post...

We report the discovery of a ∼ 96 s period X-ray pulsar in the direction of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). The BeppoSAX X-ray spectrum is well fitted by an absorbed power-law model with photon index ∼ 0.5. The unabsorbed luminosity in the 2-10 keV energy range is ∼ 9×1035 erg s−1. The BeppoSAX position (40′′ uncertainty radius) of 1SAX J0544.1710 was found to be consistent with that of the A...
