We present results of numerical and experimental investigation of the electric breakage of a cellular material in pulsed electric fields (PEF). The numerical model simulates the conductive properties of a cellular material by a two-dimensional array of biological cells. The application of an external in the form of the idealised square pulse sequence with a pulse duration t i , and a pulse repe...

Sterilization using high-intensity electric fields is detrimental to health if safety inadequate, so it necessary study the possibility of sterilization low-intensity fields. This aims determine lowest field intensity and treatment time deactivate bacteria that make up biofilms explain mechanism inactivation. The samples were from Pseudomonas aeruginosa Staphylococcus epidermidis grown on cathe...

Two simple mathematical models of electric neuro-stimulation are derived and discussed. It is found that the common injected-charge model is less realistic than a model, in which a latency period, which follows after a short electric pulse, plays a role as important as the electric pulse. A stimulation signal is proposed that takes advantage of these findings and calls for experimental testing.

This study investigated the effects of acoustic noise on the auditory nerve compound action potentials in response to electric pulse trains. Subjects were adult guinea pigs, implanted with a minimally invasive electrode to preserve acoustic sensitivity. Electrically evoked compound action potentials (ECAP) were recorded from the auditory nerve trunk in response to electric pulse trains both dur...

The aim of our study was to optimise electric pulse parameters for electrochemotherapy by sampling the space of pulse parameter variables using systematic in vitro experiments. For this purpose we defined parameters that describe the effectiveness of different sets of electric pulse parameters in vitro and combined them into an objective function that characterises requirements for successful e...

Transdermal enhancement effects of electroporation applied only on the stratum corneum by two electrode types, the stamp-type electrode and the frog-type electrode, were investigated in vitro using excised rat skin. Carboxyfluorescein (CF) was selected as a model compound. The excised skin was set in a Franz type diffusion cell and a square wave electric pulse was applied to the stratum corneum...

The quasi-sinusoidal electric organ discharge (EOD) of the weakly electric fish Sternopygus is involved in communication and orientation. Each monophasic pulse of the low-intensity EOD is a compound action potential (AP) from the simultaneously firing electrocytes of the electric organ. EOD frequency is lower and EOD pulse duration longer in sexually mature males than in sexually mature females...

In this paper the motion of electron in a miniband of a semiconductor superlattice (SSL) under the influence of external electric and magnetic fields is investigated. The electric field is applied in a direction perpendicular to the layers of the semiconductor superlattice, and the magnetic field is applied in different direction Numerical calculations show conditions led to the possibility of ...

For this systematic review, 203 published reports on effects of electroporation using nanosecond high-voltage electric pulses (nsEP) on eukaryotic cells (human, animal, plant) in vitro were analyzed. A field synopsis summarizes current published data in the field with respect to publication year, cell types, exposure configuration, and pulse duration. Published data were analyzed for effects ob...
