We estimate the 1.8 MeV luminosity of the Sco-Cen association due to radioactive decay of 26 Al to (4 − 15) 10 −5 ph cm −2 s −1. We propose a low surface brightness , limb brightened bubble for the 1.8 MeV intensity distribution. The detectibility of this distribution with existing γ-ray telescopes is discussed.
Radon, Rn, is radioactive noble gas which decays by alpha emission with half-life of 3.825 d. Its short-lived progeny, Po, Pb and Bi (Po), are alpha and beta radioactive and they emit gamma radiation as well. Radon progeny can be inhaled by humans where they deposit on the inner layers of bronchi, and bronchioles. Particles (alpha, beta and gamma) emitted in radioactive decay damage surrounding...
This article presents the results of a study relationship between increase in radiation background uranium production facilities and coefficient radioactive equilibrium radionuclides decay chain. A theoretical calculation formula for mixing daughter is given and, based on this formula; distance chain calculated. It has been established that reason violation radionuclides.
Comments on equilibrium, transient equilibrium, and secular equilibrium in serial radioactive decay.
Equations describing serial radioactive decay are reviewed along with published descriptions of transient and secular equilibrium. It is shown that terms describing equilibrium are not used in the same way by various authors. Specific definitions are proposed; they suggest that secular equilibrium is a subset of transient equilibrium.
The high demand for more intense neutrino beams is closely related to an increase of the production of radioactive isotopes in target caverns, decay tunnels and hadron stop areas. This paper gives a (short) summary of radiation protection lessons learned from the past CERN neutrino facility WANF and also from presently operating facilities like NuMI or CNGS.
Introduction: Radon is a colorless inert gas which decay products are the main component of natural radioactive elements that are naturally produced in under layers of earth crust by decay of radium and uranium. It enters through buildings via gaps and cracks. Radon gas decay products like alpha particle can increase the incidence of lung cancer in human. Since every person sp...
We have developed a technique to measure beta-delayed proton decay of proton-rich nuclei produced and separated with the MARS recoil spectrometer of Texas A&M University. The short-lived radioactive species are produced in-flight, separated, then slowed down (from about 40 MeV/u) and implanted in the middle of very thin Si detectors. The beam is pulsed and βp decay of the pure sources collected...
We calculate the total γ-ray line emission at ∼450 keV that accompanies 7 Li and 7 Be production by cosmic-ray interactions, including the delayed line emission at 0.478 MeV from 7 Be radioactive decay. We present a new γ-ray spectroscopic test which has the potential to give direct information on the nature of the interstellar regions into which 7 Be ions propagate and decay. Finally, we evalu...
There is no place on the Earth, the planet we live on, where the natural background radiation level is zero. Since the birth and even in our fetal stage, we have been exposed to different sources of natural radiation. Life, in fact, evolved in a radiation environment that was much more harsh than today. Earth serves as a source of terrestrial radiation. Uranium, thorium, and radium are among th...
