Phosphonoformate and recombinant alpha-A interferon synergistically inhibited the replication of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type III in cultured peripheral blood lymphocytes. T-cell proliferative capability was maintained by this combination, and toxicity was minimal.

We have used several transplantable experimental murine tumors to evaluate the potentiation of antitumor activity by a combination of human recombinant interleukin 2 (rHIL2) and recombinant interferons (rIFNs). The combination of rHIL2 and either human hybrid recombinant alpha-interferon A/D (rIFN-alpha A/D) or mouse recombinant beta-interferon (rIFN-beta) induced the s.c. adenocarcinoma 755, w...

Thirty-five evaluable patients with hairy cell leukemia (HCL) were treated with recombinant interferon alfa-2a (rIFN-alpha 2a), given at a dose of 3 X 10(6) units (U) intramuscularly (IM) daily for 6 months followed by 3 X 10(6) U IM three times a week for an additional 18 months in a single institution study. All treatment was stopped after 24 months. Sixty-nine percent of patients achieved a ...

The effect of a variety of cytokines on lipid metabolism in 3T3 L1 mouse fibroblasts and adipocytes was studied. Uptake of [3H]acetate by adipocytes and heparin-releasable lipoprotein lipase activity was inhibited after treatments of the cells with picomolar concentrations of recombinant human tumor necrosis factor alpha (rHuTNF-alpha), human tumor necrosis factor beta (rHuTNF-beta, also called...

nterferons, naturally occuring glycoproteins with molecular weights of approximately 20,000 daltons, possess antiviral, antiproliferative, and immune-stimulating properties. They are classified into 3 antigenically distinct forms that are derived from different cell types. Alpha (or) interferons are derived from leukocytes, beta ([3) interferons from fibroblasts, and gamma (/) interferons from ...

Currently, limited data are available regarding the efficacy and safety of pegylated interferon alpha-2a (PEG-IFN α-2a) in Korean patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), in whom hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotype C is the most common type.We collected data from 439 patients (HBeAg positive, n = 349; HBeAg negative, n = 90) with CHB who were treated with PEG-IFN α-2a as a first-line therapy from ...
