The in-plane optical anisotropy (IPOA) in InAs/GaSb superlattices has been studied by reflectance difference spectroscopy (RDS) at different temperatures ranging from 80 to 300 K. We introduce alternate GaAs- and InSb-like interfaces (IFs), which cause the symmetry reduced from D 2d to C 2v . IPOA has been observed in the (001) plane along [110] and [1[Formula: see text]0] axes. RDS measurement...
When bacteria are subjected to step-down conditions, there is an enhanced production of a messenger-type of RNA for a short time after the shift. A cultural shift, which appears to be similar to step-down, is described for gametophytes of Pteridium aquilinum. When the cultures are grown in white light, a population of rapidly dividing cells is produced, whereas in red light cell elongation pred...
A new thiacalix[4]arene-cinnamaldehyde derivative 3, which undergoes red shift in the fluorescence spectrum in the presence of Ag(+) ions, has been synthesized. This emission shift is attributed to the intramolecular charge transfer process in the presence of Ag(+) ions with a detection limit in the nanomolar range.
Solvent reorganization around the excited state of a chromophore leads to an emission shift to longer wavelengths during the excited-state lifetime. This solvation response is absent in wild-type green fluorescent protein, and this has been attributed to rigidity in the chromophore's environment necessary to exclude nonradiative transitions to the ground state. The fluorescent protein mPlum was...
We have studied the effect of the magnetic field on the indirect excitons in coupled quantum wells in GaAs at magnetic fields up to 25 T. An unexpectedly large red shift of the indirect exciton line occurs at relatively low magnetic field. This shift depends strongly on the electric field applied parallel to the growth direction. q 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
Among fluorescent proteins (FPs) used as genetically encoded fluorescent tags, the red-emitting FPs are of particular importance as suitable markers for deep tissue imaging. Using electronic structure calculations, we predict a new structural motif for achieving red-shifted absorption and emission in FPs from the GFP family. By introducing four point mutations, we arrive to the structure with t...
Several transitions of Lower to Middle Turonian pelagic marl–limestone-cycles into Oceanic Red Beds were studied at high resolution to gain a better understanding of the Tethyan marine system before and during red bed initiation and development. Samples were analysed for mineralogy, geochemistry, and stable isotope composition. In particular, carbonate geochemistry of diagenetically largely una...
