The effects of etomidate and thiopentone on intraocular pressure were studied in 50 patients of either sex undergoing routine non-ophthalmic surgery. Both drugs decreased intraocular pressure significantly. However, etomidate induced a significantly greater decrease in intraocular pressure than did thiopentone.
PURPOSE To examine associations between neuroretinal rim area, pressure related factors and anthropometric parameters in a population-based setting. METHODS The population-based cross-sectional Beijing Eye Study 2006 included 3251 subjects with an age of 45+ years. The participants underwent a detailed ophthalmic examination. Exclusion criteria for our study were high myopia of more than -8 d...
The left ventricular assist device (LVAD) has been a standard of care for the management of patients with advanced heart failure since the 1990s. An increased risk of spontaneous bleeding related to the device has been noted, ranging from minor epistaxis to major thoracic and mediastinal hemorrhages. To our knowledge, intraocular hemorrhage has not been previously reported. We report a 72-year-...
The early reports on intraocular bevacizumab injections talked about a transient predictable probably volume-related rise in intraocular pressure (IOP). As the usage of the drug increased across the globe, sustained IOP elevation was noted. This article provides an insightly into the causes of IOP spikes and its impact on glaucoma practice. The relationship between homocysteine levels and glaucoma has been questioned in previous studies without conclusive results. In the current study, we assessed the relationship between homocysteine levels and intraocular pressure which is one of the main factors in the development of glaucoma in men and women.A retrospective cross-sectional analysis of a database from a screening center in Isra...
Hypotony maculopathy is a condition that may result in visual deterioration from choroidal folds or optic disc edema. Optic disc edema can result from altered translaminar pressure gradients (lowered intraocular pressure, increased cerebrospinal fluid pressure, or increased orbital pressure). We report a case of bilateral optic disc edema in a patient with glaucoma and thyroid-related orbitopat...
Imidazole, given intraperitoneally to rabbits, inhibited the prostaglandin E1-induced (PGE1) elevation of intraocular pressure. The maximum imidaz-le effect occurred at three to six hours after intraperitoneal infection. The prostaglandin E1-induced aqueous humor protein elevation was reduced markedly in the imidazole-pretreated rabbits. Intravenous administration of imidazole also was effectiv...
Intraocular pressure, blood pH, plasma osmolarily, blood lactate, blood pyruvate, blood pressure, and pulse ivere monitored in 12 human subjects following exercise. Intraocular pressure was found to decrease after exercise. This decrease was associated with a rise of blood lactate and plasma osmolarity and a fall in blood pH. The fall in intraocular pressure after exercise was compared to that ...
OBJECTIVE To determine whether lifestyle-related risk factors, such as socioeconomic status, smoking, alcohol consumption, and obesity, are associated with open-angle glaucoma (OAG). METHODS Participants from the Rotterdam Study, a prospective population-based cohort study, were considered eligible if they participated at both baseline and follow-up and if they had no OAG at baseline. All par...
