A fundamentally mode-locked soliton Er-fiber laser generating 167 fs pulses at 194 MHz via polarization additive-pulse mode locking is demonstrated. This simple, compact, and high repetition rate source exhibits a low timing jitter of 18 fs [1 kHz, 10 MHz] and the lowest relative intensity noise of less than 0.003% [1 kHz, 10 MHz] observed from an Er-fiber laser.

We present measurements of relative intensity noise versus various levels of optical feedback for 1.3 μm quantum dot lasers epitaxially grown on silicon for the first time. A systematic comparison is made with heterogeneously integrated 1.55 μm quantum well lasers on silicon. Our results indicate up to 20 dB reduced sensitivity of the quantum dot lasers on silicon compared to the quantum wells.

We numerically investigate relative intensity-noise transfer from a noisy pump to the generated Stokes component in random distributed feedback ultralong Raman fiber lasers. Results show transfer levels comparable to those in distributed Raman amplification and cavity-based ultralong Raman fiber lasers, but with some unique spectral features.
