Incidence and severity of root-rot caused by the fungus Macrophomina phaseoli was increased in screenhouse-grown kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) seedlings simultaneously infected by the nematode Meloidogyne javanica. In seedlings inoculated at 5, 10 and 15 days of age, root rot lesions increased 70.3, 44.1 and 21.8%, and nematode penetration increased 49.0, 36.7, and 12.3% when both fungus and n...
Metallic silver nanoparticles have been reduced from silver nitrate by employing the extracellular enzymatic machinery of edible White button Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus). The physical properties of these particles, size and shapes have been determined using techniques like TEM, FTIR and XRD and were reported in our earlier report. But, what stands of paramount importance in the presen...
Severe violet root rot occurred in a field of membranous milk vetch in Bonghwa, Korea, in October 2010. Two fungal isolates from the diseased plants were identified as Helicobasidium mompa based on their morphological, cultural, and molecular characteristics. This is the first report that H. mompa causes violet root rot on membranous milk vetch in Korea.
Fusarium semitectum was found to be the major seed colonizing fungus in the commercial acid delinted cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) seed lots. There was no correlation, however, between its incidence and seedling emergence and disease symptoms on the emerged seedlings in autoclaved sand. Inoculation technique simulating internally seedborne nature of the fungus showed that the observed non-correla...
Since the 1990s, brown root rot caused by Phellinus noxius (Corner) Cunningham has become a major tree disease in Taiwan. This fungal pathogen can infect more than 200 hardwood and softwood tree species, causing gradual to fast decline of the trees. For effective control, we must determine how the pathogen is disseminated and how the new infection center of brown root rot is established. We per...
Hood, M. E., and Shew, H. D. 1996. Pathogenesis of Thielaviopsis basi cola on a susceptible and a resistant cultivar of burley tobacco. Phytopa thology 86:38-44. cells of TN90 was very restricted compared to a more diffuse amber region on B2IxIO. Hyphae advanced from the necrotic regions into asymptomatic cells on B2IxIO, but hyphae were limited to discolored cells on TN90. Sporulation was prol...
abstract valerian medicinal plant (valeriana officinalis) is a perennial succulent plant that is natural lenitive and good ingrained of diazepam. this study was conducted in order to identify the fungal agents of rhizome and root rot of valerian. infected plant samples that showed the symptoms of rotting and necrosis were collected from karaj and used in order to isolate disease agents. symptom...
abstract a total of 270 bacillus strains were isolated from bulk soil and rhizospheric of cucumber in the tonekabon fields (mazandaran province). antifungal activity of bacillus strains was evaluated against pythium aphanidermatum and p. ultimum using dual culture method. 13 strains with more than 10 mm inhibition zone were selected for further study. morphological, physiological, biochemical a...
BACKGROUND Soybean red crown rot is a major soil-borne disease all over the world, which severely affects soybean production. Efficient and sustainable methods are strongly desired to control the soil-borne diseases. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We firstly investigated the disease incidence and index of soybean red crown rot under different phosphorus (P) additions in field and found that the natural i...
