We report on an outbreak of laboratory-acquired brucellosis involving four technicians working at a microbiology laboratory. All cases occurred in a period of 4 months. Blood cultures and the Rose Bengal test were positive for Brucella spp. in all cases. Microagglutination was positive for Brucella spp. at titers of between 1/40 and 1/160. All patients were cured after treatment.
Adherence of fluorescein sodium dye to diseased epithelial cells, a hitherto unreported phenomenon, was captured in photomicrographs in severe herpes zoster and keratoconjunctivitis sicca keratopathies. It is notable that this phenomenon differs completely from the well known fluorescent property of the dye penetrating into defective corneal epithelium, and that the staining pattern shown by ad...
Serological results obtained from 907 serum samples collected from unvaccinated cattle of at least 6 months of age in the savannah-forest region of Ivory Coast were used to investigate risk factors associated with bovine brucellosis seropositivity. Serum samples were tested using the Rose Bengal test (RBT) and indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (iELISA). Using a parallel interpretation,...
Forty four pigs with typical characteristics for false positive serolpgical reactions (FPSR) were examined for the presence of Yersinia enterocolitica O:9. The positive reactions were observed in rose bengal test (RBT, N = 23 sera), serum agglutination test (SAT, N = 16), complement fixation test (CFT, N = 9), indirect ELISA (i-ELISA, N= 11) in first, and in RBT (N = 14), SAT (N = 8), CFT (N = ...
The substrate specificity of choline acetyltransferase (EC 2.3.1.6) isolated from squid ganglia was investigated. The enzyme catalyzed the acetylation of choline and aminocholine but not of homocholine. In D(2)O solution there was considerable slowing of the transacetylation reaction. Photo-oxidation in the presence of methylene blue or rose bengal rapidly inactivated the enzyme, suggesting inv...
Peanut kernels (Tainan 9, a Spanish cultivar) inoculated with Aspergillus parasiticus, A. flavus, A. niger, or A. ochraceus as well as noninoculated kernels were incubated in a humidified environment (relative humidity, 100%) at 25(deg)C for 7 weeks. Internal fungal populations and changes in moisture and sucrose content and free amino acid composition of the kernels were determined periodicall...
A protein fraction was isolated from guinea-pig liver that binds triethyltin with an affinity of approx. 2x10(6)m(-1) at pH8.0. It was shown that the protein responsible for binding 70% of the triethyltin found in guinea-pig liver after injection of radioactively labelled triethyltin is at most a few per cent of the total liver protein. Evidence is presented from the kinetics of loss of binding...
Background: Brucellosis is an important but ignored zoonotic disease in India, with high prevalence among livestock and humans. It is of particular concern among veterinarians as they come in contact with infected animals in their day to day work. Aim and Objectives: The present study was carried out to determine the prevalence of antibrucellar antibodies and assess the Knowledge, Attitude and ...
controls (19.7 1.1 minutes) in the FeCl3 model and 12.7 2.0 and 18.6 1.9 minutes, respectively in the Rose Bengal model. Moreover, overexpression of p16 delayed thrombus resolution compared with normal controls. In response to lipopolysaccharide treatment, the p16 transgenic mice showed enhanced thrombin generation in plasma-based calibrated automated thrombography assays. Finally, bone marrow ...
