We investigate the capacity needed to build a restorable satellite network and design routing schemes to achieve high throughput. Speci cally, the rst part of this thesis considers the link capacity requirement for a LEO satellite constellation. We model the constellation as an N N mesh-torus topology under a uniform all-to-all traÆc model. Both primary capacity and spare capacity for recoverin...

In the near future, existing terrestrial radio networks are envisioned to integrate with satellite systems in order to provide global coverage. In order to establish communication for both nonhand-held and hand-held user terminals, the radio link design must allow fulland half-duplex operation, respectively, where the latter is desirable when radiation power restrictions are imposed. In additio...

Existing satellite communication standards such as DVB-S2, operate under highly-efficient adaptive coding and modulation schemes thus making significant progress in improving the spectral efficiencies of digital satellite broadcast systems. However, the constantly increasing demand for broadband and interactive satellite links emanates the need to apply novel interference mitigation techniques,...

We are using MPEG-4 technology to build applications to be used in real environments. One of these applications allows for teacher to send real-time lessons to this/her students or to record them. The TeleLearning System under development includes: a) on the teacher side: a recording workstation with two cameras, microphone, specific MPEG-4 software; b) an IP network or an MPEG-2 TS satellite l...

This preliminary study describes the application of a link-level modelling to the performance analysis of a typical land mobile satellite user link. The approach is based on a physical-statistical model and integrates a new point of view differentiating the temporal availability and the spatial coverage. The physical nature of the method highlights the role of the most preponderant parameters.

In this paper, we begin by describing the Starlink constellation’s configuration plan, treating each satellite as a network node, naming and numbering various nodes, then classifying laser interstellar links (LISLs) according to their orbital alignment whether they are permanently visible. Whereupon, method for calculating respective theoretical distances required establishing LISLs under two d...
