SAD is a state of depression induced by a lack of sufficient sunlight that occurs at high latitudes during the fall and winter. SAD causes people to be risk-adverse. [1] Our objective was to measure the stable carbon isotope composition of leaf tissue and CO2 released by respiration (dr), and to use this information as an estimate of changes in ecosystem isotopic discrimination that occur in response to seasonal and interannual changes in environmental conditions, and land-use change (forest-pasture conversion). We made measurements in primary forest and pa...

BACKGROUND As observed during the 2009 pandemic, a novel influenza virus can spread globally before the epidemic peaks locally. As consistencies in the relative timing and direction of spread could form the basis for an early alert system, the objectives of this study were to use the case-based reporting system for laboratory confirmed influenza from the Canadian FluWatch surveillance program t...

This study investigated the seasonality of acoustic backscatter intensities, exploring three habitats in southwestern Baltic Sea: 1) a mussel-covered reef, 2) coarse sand and gravel, 3) seagrass meadows. Backscatter information different, partly calibrated frequencies (200, 400, 550, 700 kHz) was collected seasons (May, August, October). The data were supported by point samples video profiles f...

The primary nonbiological result of recent rapid climate change is warming winter temperatures, particularly at northern latitudes, leading to longer growing seasons and new seasonal exigencies and opportunities. Biological responses reflect selection due to the earlier arrival of spring, the later arrival of fall, or the increasing length of the growing season. Animals from rotifers to rodents...
