We study the effective second-harmonic generation (SHG) susceptibility in graded metallic films by invoking the local field effects exactly, and further numerically demonstrate that the graded metallic films can serve as a novel optical material for producing a broad structure in both the linear and SHG response and an enhancement in the SHG signal. ocis: 160.4330, 310.6860, 160.4670, 160.4760.

We show that the lack of inversion symmetry in monolayer MoS2 allows strong optical second harmonic generation. The second harmonic of an 810-nm pulse is generated in a mechanically exfoliated monolayer, with a nonlinear susceptibility on the order of 10−7 m/V. The susceptibility reduces by a factor of seven in trilayers, and by about two orders of magnitude in even layers. A proof-of-principle...

We investigate the second-order nonlinear interaction as a means to generate entanglement between fields of differing wavelengths and show that perfect entanglement can, in principle, be produced between the fundamental and second-harmonic fields in these processes. Neither pure second-harmonic generation nor parametric oscillation optimally produce entanglement; such optimal entanglement is ra...

Second harmonic generation (SHG) is a well known non-linear optical phenomena which can be observed only in non-centrosymmetric crystals due to non-zero hyperpolarizability. In the current work we observed SHG from a Zn(II) complex which was originally thought to have crystallized in the centrosymmetric space group C2/c. This has been attributed to the unequal antiparallel packing of the metal ...

Efficient frequency conversion techniques are crucial to the development of plasmonic metasurfaces for information processing and signal modulation. In principle, nanoscale electric-field confinement in nonlinear materials enables higher harmonic conversion efficiencies per unit volume than those attainable in bulk materials. Here we demonstrate efficient second-harmonic generation (SHG) in a s...

Second harmonic generation (SHG) can be used as a technique for controlling the spatial mode structure of optical beams. We demonstrate experimentally the generation of higher-order spatial modes, and the possibility to use nonlinear phase matching as a predictable and robust technique for the conversion of transverse electric modes of the second harmonic output. The details of this effect are ...

The process of optical frequency doubling can lead, in the undepleted regime, to the generation of a X-wave envelope with group velocity locked to the pump beam. Its parameters and its angular spectrum, are directly related to the zeroand first-order dispersive features of the nonlinear process. This constitutes a novel mechanism for spatio-temporal localization of light. Electronic address: c....

We study the second-harmonic generation and localization of light in a reconfigurable waveguide induced by an optical vortex soliton in a defocusing Kerr medium. We show that the vortex-induced waveguide greatly improves conversion efficiency from the fundamental to the second-harmonic field.

The solution of the coupled-wave equations for second-harmonic generation in a near-resonant three-level system is extended to include absorption. It is shown, within second-order perturbation theory, that double resonance is the optimal conversion condition, despite absorption enhancement. We extend the solution numerically, using nonperturbative susceptibilities derived within the rotating-wa...
