Semiconductor cadmium selenide (CdSe) quantum dots (QDs) exhibited mirror-image circular dichroism (CD) spectra in the visible region (350-570 nm) after replacing the trioctylphosphine oxide/oleic acid ligands on achiral nanocrystals with D- and L-cysteines. Chiroptical properties of cysteine-capped CdSe QDs depend on their size and can be fine-tuned by changing the radius of QDs.

Azole-containing selenoethers, 1,5-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)-3-selena pentane and 1,3-bis(1,2,3-benzotriazol-1-yl)-2-selena propane were prepared by the reaction of corresponding tosylate or chloride with sodium selenide generated in situ from elemental selenium and sodium formaldehydesulfoxylate (rongalite).

A new application area using a very simple alkali metal chalcogenide, disodium diselenide (Na2Se2), has been developed. The prepared alkali metal chalcogenide (disodium diselenide, Na2Se2) acts as an anionic exchange precursor (PbS to PbS-PbSe), a Se precursor for metal selenide nanoparticles (Ag to Ag2Se), and a MCC (FeO-MCC) depending on the type of colloidal nanoparticles.

Iron selenide obtained by mild hydrothermal reaction is not superconducting and exhibits a triclinic crystal structure below 60 K unlike superconducting FeSe from conventional solid state synthesis which is orthorhombic. In contrast, tetragonal iron sulphide FeS from hydrothermal synthesis is superconducting but undergoes no structural change on cooling.

Quasi-quaternary nanocrystal superlattices are assembled by using exclusively core-shell particles as building blocks. The assemblies show an enhancement of energy-transfer from cadmium selenide-based core-shell quantum dots to gold-iron oxide core-shell nanocrystals compared to random mixtures of the same components.
