We describe a new kind of transition between topologically distinct N = 2 type II Calabi–Yau vacua through points with enhanced non-abelian gauge symmetries together with fundamental charged matter hyper multiplets. We connect the appearance of matter to the local geometry of the singularity and discuss the relation between the instanton numbers of the Calabi–Yau manifolds taking part in the tr...

In this paper we have proposed a novel machine learning based approach to video summarization problem. Semisupervised learning algorithm has been used to generate the summaries. Manually generated summaries (ideal summaries) serves as the labeled samples for the semi-supervised learning. Both visual and aural feature vectors taken over a set of videos are clustered and the individual video sequ...

We perform quantum mechanically exact calculations of resonances in the spectrum of the hydrogen atom in crossed external fields and establish a close connection between the classical transition state in phase space and features in the quantum spectrum. By varying the external field strengths, structures are revealed which are surprisingly similar to the quantized energy levels of the classical...

In this paper, we propose an improvement of hidden semiMarkov model (HSMM) based speech synthesis system by durationdependent state transition probabilities. In traditional HMM algorithm, the probability of the duration of a state decreases exponentially with time, which does not provide an adequate representation of the temporal structure of speech. To overcome this limitation, HSMM, which mod...

The Linearization of Nonlinear feedback shift registers (NFSRs) is to find their state transition matrices. In this paper, we investigate the linearization multi-valued NFSRs by considering it as a logical network via a semi-tensor product approach. A new state transition matrix is found for an multi-valued NFSR, which can be simply computed from the truth table of its feedback function, and th...

The motion of a conducting electron in a quantum dot with one or several dislocations in the underlying crystal lattice is considered in the continuum picture, where dislocations are represented by torsion of space. The possible effects of torsion are investigated on the levels of classical motion, nonrelativistic quantum motion, and spin-torsion coupling terms derivable in the non-relativistic...

The equilibrium density distribution and thermodynamic properties of a Lennard-Jones fluid confined to nanosized spherical cavities at a constant chemical potential was determined using Monte Carlo simulations. The results describe both a single cavity with semi-permeable walls as well as a collection of closed cavities formed at the constant chemical potential. The results are compared to calc...

We develop a novel approach to phase transitions in quantum spin models based on a relation to their classical counterparts. Explicitly, we show that whenever chessboard estimates can be used to prove a phase transition in the classical model, the corresponding quantum model will have a similar phase transition, provided the inverse temperature β and the magnitude of the quantum spins S satisfy...

Transition-path theory is a theoretical framework for describing rare events in complex systems. It can also be used as a starting point for developing efficient numerical algorithms for analyzing such rare events. Here we review the basic components of transition-path theory and path-finding algorithms. We also discuss connections with the classical transition-state theory.
