The colon involved with the sigmoid volvulus is much thicker than the normal colon. It is easy to handle and holds sutures well. Patients who have sigmoid-colon volvulus do not have much faecal loading. Most of the distension is gaseous. In the hands of experienced surgeons primary anastomosis can be done after sigmoid colectomy with safety and excellent results.

Our study is about feed-forward neural network’s learning method. Generally, the method of improving its learning is focused on learning rate and moment term. We focus on sigmoid functions. Sigmoid functions are used for converting input signal into output signal and adjusting connection weight of learning in feed-forward neural network. We change gradient of sigmoid functions and investigate o...

Prolapsed epiploica of the sigmoid colon through the vaginal cuff is a rare finding that has never been reported after total laparoscopic hysterectomy. We encountered a case of prolapsed epiploica of the sigmoid colon in a 40-year-old female, 4 months status after total laparoscopic hysterectomy. Diagnostic laparoscopy demonstrated prolapsed epiploica of the sigmoid colon through a dehisced vag...

A model is developed of the emergence of the knowledge level in a society of agents where agents model and manage other agents as resources, and manage the learning of other agents to develop such resources. It is argued that any persistent system that actively creates the conditions for its persistence is appropriately modeled in terms of the rational teleological models that Newell defines as...

(2) hn divides hm whenever n divides m. They have attracted number theoretical and combinatorial interest as some of the simplest nonlinear recurrence sequences (see [3] for references), but for us their interest lives in the underlying geometry: Ward demonstrates that an elliptic divisibility sequence arises from any choice of elliptic curve over Q and rational point on that curve. Theorem 1 (...

This is a case of a 54-year-old gentleman who presented to an outside hospital emergency department with lower abdominal pain. Computed tomography imaging showed a small amount of intraperitoneal free air and cystic pneumatosis coli. He was admitted, managed conservatively with intravenous antibiotics, and then discharged home after his symptoms improved. Elective laparoscopic sigmoid colectomy...

The goal of this paper is to introduce a new neural network architecture called Sigmoid Diagonal Recurrent Neural Network (SDRNN) to be used in the adaptive control of nonlinear dynamical systems. This is done by adding a sigmoid weight victor in the hidden layer neurons to adapt of the shape of the sigmoid function making their outputs not restricted to the sigmoid function output. Also, we in...

We consider the use of sigmoid functions for multistage detection in asynchronous code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems. The sigmoid decision function for each stage of multistage detection is derived under the assumption that the residual noise which remains after the multiple-access interference (MAI) cancellation at a stage is Gaussian. It is suggested that the sigmoid function should...

In a society of agents the learning processes of an individual agent can become critically dependent on knowledge processes in the society as a whole. It is useful to adopt a collective stance that views the overall society as a larger adaptive agent that is recursively divided into adaptive sub-agents. The resources for an agent include other agents, and some of an agent’s processes will be de...

Reviewed by PJ Lowe1 What is “Quantitative Pharmacology”? Surely, pharmacologists have long quantitated responses through parameters such as ED50 or EC50, the dose or concentration for half-maximum effect, seeking to understand the influence of many factors, whether they be drug structure or patient-disease related. In “Quantitative Pharmacology,” Gabrielsson and Hjorth explain that it is the i...
