Photoacoustic tomography (PAT) is applied to image the brain cortex of a monkey through the intact scalp and skull ex vivo. The reconstructed PAT image shows the major blood vessels on the monkey brain cortex. For comparison, the brain cortex is imaged without the scalp, and then imaged again without the scalp and skull. Ultrasound attenuation through the skull is also measured at various incid...

The efficacy of the posteroanterior and lateral ScoutView images with an abbreviated (every other cut) computed tomographic (CT) examination for skull fractures and associated intracranial trauma was analyzed. The every-other-slice CT study found all the brain injuries detected by the complete CT study. In addition, 20 of 21 skull fractures were identified on the posteroanterior and lateral Sco...

Previous work has demonstrated that electrical impedance tomography can be used to image human brain activity during evoked responses, but two-thirds of the reconstructed images fail to localize an impedance change to the expected stimulated cortical area. The localization failure may be caused by modelling the head as a homogenous sphere in the reconstruction algorithm. This assumption may lea...

Extra medullary plasmacytomas occurring as solitary (primary) tumours or secondary manifestations of multiple myeloma most often involve the upper airways and paranasal sinuses. The skull is one of the rarest sites of extra medullary plasmacytoma. Myelomatous deposits in dural reflections distant from the bony skull, i.e. tentorium and falx, are rarer, and probably result from dissection along ...

They are benign neoplasms with low morbidity and mortality and the patients usually present with seizures, but there has been no adult ganglioglioma with lytic skull lesion. A 49-year-old right handed woman suffering from generalized epileptic seizures was admitted to our hospital. She had also left...
