The nanoparticles of Ti-Si mixed oxides (NTSO) with Rutile structure were prepared by sol-gel method in a mixture of alcohol and water as solvent. The solid product was characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, UV, TGA and laser Raman spectroscopy. The catalytic activity of NTSO (5-10 nm) was investigated in the epoxidation of cis stilbene, trans stilbene, and norbornene by using oxidants such as t...

We experimentally demonstrate a notably enhanced acceleration of protons to high energy by relatively modest ultrashort laser pulses and structured dynamical plasma targets. Realized by special deposition of snow targets on sapphire substrates and using carefully planned prepulses, high proton yields emitted in a narrow solid angle with energy above 21 MeV were detected from a 5 TW laser. Our s...

We have demonstrated a 45 μm core diameter Neodymium-doped all-solid silicate glass photonic crystal fiber laser with a single mode laser output. The structure parameters and modes information of the fiber are both demonstrated by theoretical calculations using Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method and experimental measurements. Maximum 0.8 W output power limited by launched pump power ha...

Post-crystallization heat-treatment of metal-induced laterally crystallized polycrystalline silicon thin film using YAG solid-state laser is characterized. It is found that both the material quality and the TFT performance are related to the laser-treatment condition. The amorphous silicon fraction remaining in the polycrystalline thin film can be reduced and the performance of the thin-film tr...

We report an organic solid-state distributed feedback laser consisting of an organic active layer and a Bragg grating without morphological change. The active layer consists of 4-~dicyanomethylene!-2-methyl-6-~4-dimethylaminostryl!-4H-pyran as a laser dye, tris~8hydroxyquinoline! aluminum as a host, and poly~methyl methacrylate! as a binder. The threshold and linewidth of the laser are 400 mJ/c...

Diode pumped solid state (DPSS) Q-switched nanosecond pulsed lasers are becoming the laser of choice for a wide variety of processes in printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing. Lasers are being used today in PCB manufacturing for via drilling, depaneling, profiling (cutting), laser direct imaging (LDI), repair, trimming, marking, skiving and other processes. The majority of these processes ar...

Laser-induced spallation is proposed as a powerful means for the investigation of adhesion properties of solid surface films. Ultrasonic pulses are produced at the back side of the sample by the impact of Nd:YAG-laser pulses. At the front side, the induced ultrasonic surface displacements are monitored with a 300 MHz bandwidth fiber-optic interferometer, which is proposed as a versatile point-d...

A highly strained GaAs=GaAs0.64Sb0.36 single quantum well laser has been grown on GaAs (100) substrate by using solid source molecular beam epitaxy. The uncoated broad-area laser demonstrates 1.292 mm pulsed operation with a low threshold current density of 300 A=cm. The spontaneous emission of the laser was also studied. The result reveals that the Auger recombination component dominates the t...

We demonstrate a multiple-channel, mode-locked, all-solid-state Cr:forsterite laser. By inserting an etalon into the laser cavity, we have generated 12 phase-locked channels with 9-19-ps pulse width near 1230 nm with 280-mW average output power from a single laser oscillator. By tuning the etalon bandwidth we can shorten the pulse width in a specific channel to 1.8 ps.

Laser ignition is considered to be one of the most promising future ignition concepts for internal combustion engines. It combines the legally required reduction of pollutant emissions and higher engine efficiencies. The igniting plasma is generated by a focussed pulsed laser beam. Having pulse durations of a few nanoseconds, the pulse energy Ep for reliable ignition amounts to the order of 10 ...
