Using integration by parts on Gaussian space we construct a Stein Unbiased Risk Estimator (SURE) for the drift of Gaussian processes, based on their local and occupation times. By almost-sure minimization of the SURE risk of shrinkage estimators we derive an estimation and de-noising procedure for an input signal perturbed by a continuous-time Gaussian noise.

 Inspired by the success of least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) in statistical learning, we propose an regularized maximum likelihood linear regression (MLLR) to estimate models with only a limited set of adaptation data to improve accuracy for automatic speech recognition, by regularizing the standard MLLR objective function with an constraint. The so-called LASSO MLLR is ...

Accurate channel state information (CSI) is necessary at receiver for coherent detection in amplify-and-forward (AF) cooperative communication systems. To estimate the channel, traditional methods, that is, least squares (LS) and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), are based on assumptions of either dense channel or global sparse channel. However, LS-based linear method neg...

Locally weighted regression is a technique that predicts the response for new data items from their neighbors in the training data set, where closer data items are assigned higher weights in the prediction. However, the original method may suffer from overfitting and fail to select the relevant variables. In this paper we propose combining a regularization approach with locally weighted regress...

Sleep habits are associated with stroke in western populations, but this relation has been rarely investigated in China. Moreover, the differences among stroke subtypes remain unclear. This study aimed to explore the associations of total stroke, including ischemic and hemorrhagic type, with sleep habits of a population in southern China. We performed a case-control study in patients admitted t...

Regularization regression techniques are widely used to overcome a model’s parameter estimation problem in the presence of multicollinearity. Several biased available literature, including ridge, Least Angle Shrinkage Selection Operator (LASSO), and elastic net. In this work, we study performance classical LASSO, adaptive ordinary least squares (OLS) methods high-multicollinearity scenarios pro...

Bayesian hierarchical shrinkage methods have been widely used for quantitative trait locus mapping. From the computational perspective, the application of the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method is not optimal for high-dimensional problems such as the ones arising in epistatic analysis. Maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation can be a faster alternative, but it usually produces only point esti...

We present a framework for hyperspectral image (HSI) analysis validation, specifically abundance fraction estimation based on HSI measurements of water soluble dye mixtures printed on microarray chips. In our work we focus on the performance of two algorithms, the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) and the Spatial LASSO (SPLASSO). The LASSO is a well known statistical metho...

We consider some inference problems concerning the drift parameters vector of diffusion process. Namely, we consider the case where the parameters vector is suspected to satisfy certain restriction. Under such a design and imprecise prior information, we propose Stein-rule (or shrinkage) estimators which improves over the performance of the classical maximum likelihood estimator (MLE). By using...

Image denoising as a pre-processing stage is a used to preserve details, edges and global contrast without blurring the corrupted image. Among state-of-the-art algorithms, block shrinkage denoising is an effective and compatible method to suppress additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). Traditional NeighShrink algorithm can remove the Gaussian noise significantly, but loses the edge information i...
