Ornithodoros rostratus is an argasid tick and its importance is based on its hematophagy and the resulting transmission of pathogens such as Rickettsia rickettsii and Coxiella burnetii to its vertebrate hosts. In the face of a lack of physiological studies related to hematophagy in argasid ticks, this paper aims to identify and characterize the events that occur throughout the feeding by O. ros...

Rechecking the position of the nasogastric tube after oropharyngeal suction is not common practice. Our patient deteriorated after oropharyngeal suction was performed, whilst nasogastric feeding continued. We suggest that nasogastric feeding should be stopped during oropharyngeal suction and the tube position should be checked every time an oropharyngeal suction is performed.

BACKGROUND/AIMS Human skin is a complex tissue consisting of several distinct layers. Each layer consists of various components with a specific structure. To gain a better insight into the overall mechanical behaviour of the skin, we wish to study the mechanical properties of the different layers. A numerical-experimental method was developed to characterize the non-linear mechanical behaviour ...

In this paper, we investigate the combined effects of buoyancy force and Navier slip on the entropy generation rate in a vertical porous channel with wall suction/injection. The nonlinear model problem is tackled numerically using Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method with shooting technique. Both the velocity and temperature profiles are obtained and utilized to compute the entropy generation number. Th...

Thi~ paper is baaed on the working principle of scroll compressor and after investigating the ga~ flow condition, in especial analysis the gas leaking situation between two scroll parts mutual gearing, which influence the compressor performance very much. The working process calculating model is set up, employ the soroll compressor geometric parameter, size~ error of parts manufactured as well ...

I, Bedok South Road, Singapore 1646 This study attempts to qualitatively quanti:(y the thermal design aspects of the suction tube of a hermetic refrigeration compressor with high shell pressure configuration. The effects on heat transfer and fluid flow which affect the design dimensions and material selection of the suction tube will be shown and discussed. Results obtained suggested that the t...

A numerical model is developed to simulate the transport phenomena in the flow channel between parallel plates with porous and non-porous (or impermeable) walls. The continuity and momentum equations were solved first, assuming the wall Reynolds number in the range of with the suction or injection of air at a speed equal to the uniform inlet velocity. The results show that at constant inlet and...

Feeding kinematics, suction and hydraulic jetting capabilities of bearded seals (Erignathus barbatus) were characterized during controlled feeding trials. Feeding trials were conducted both on land and in water, and allowed a choice between suction and biting, but food was also presented that could be ingested by suction alone. Four feeding phases, preparatory, jaw opening, hyoid depression and...

This paper numerically investigates the effectiveness of the control of steady suction on a stationary circular cylinder with several isolated suction holes on the surface at a subcritical Reynolds number. The control effectiveness as a function of the azimuthal position, spanwise spacing and suction flow rate of the suction holes on the control of the aerodynamic forces on the cylinder and the...

Background: Inguinal hernia is a common surgical problem which increases with aging especially in men. A common method for treatment is surgical repair using prosthesis, Lichtenstein technique. One frequent complication after inguinal herniorrhaphy is soft tissues seroma. There are several methods to prevent or to drain seroma. Some surgeons suggest the insertion of closed suction drainage syst...
