We experimentally study a new regime for supercontinuum (SC) generation in the nanosecond pulsed regime using a microstructured optical fiber with two zero-dispersion wavelengths (ZDWs). Pumping at 1535 nm around the second ZDW yields a nearly flat SC over 1350–1700 nm. The interplay between the effects of modulation instability and stimulated Raman scattering are described through simple phase...
The generation of an octave spanning supercontinuum covering 488-978 nm (at -30 dB) is demonstrated for the first time on-chip. This result is achieved by dispersion engineering a 1-cm-long Si3N4 waveguide and pumping it with an 100-fs Ti:Sapphire laser emitting at 795 nm. This work offers a bright broadband source for biophotonic applications and frequency metrology.
Photonic crystal fibers are novel optical waveguides containing a periodic array of air holes running along the fiber around a solid or hollow core. These fibers have recently attracted great interest in many research areas such as in nonlinear optics and measurement science as their manufacturing process allows for a high flexibility in the fiber design. Index-guiding photonic crystal fibers a...
We study propagation of polychromatic light near the edge of a nonlinear waveguide array. We describe simultaneous spatial and spectral beam reshaping associated with power and wavelength-dependent tunneling between the waveguides. We present experimental verifications of the effects predicted theoretically including the first observation of supercontinuum nonlinear surface modes.
We report the first supercontinuum generated in a gas-filled single-ring hollow-core PCF. When pumped with ultrashort pulses at 1500 nm, the emitted spectrum spans three octaves from the deep ultraviolet to the mid-infrared. We demonstrate a fully coherent supercontinuum spectrum spanning 500 nm from a silicon-on-insulator photonic wire waveguide pumped at 1575 nm wavelength. An excellent agreement with numerical simulations is reported. The simulations also show that a high level of two-photon absorption can essentially enforce the coherence of the spectral broadening process irrespective of the pump pulse duration.
Polarization dynamics of femtosecond light pulses propagating in air is studied by computer simulation. A rich variety of dynamics is found that depends on the initial polarization state and power of the pulse. Effects of polarization on the plasma and supercontinuum generation are also discussed.
We report measurement of efficient amplification of weak femtosecond supercontinuum seed pulses by use of a noncollinear optical parametric process in BBO crystal pumped with 150-fs pulses from a frequency-doubled regenerative-amplified Ti:sapphire laser at 390nm . The highest amplification factor, 10(8) , was achieved for 3x10(-16)J energy seed pulses at wavelength of 560nm.
