Yeast surface display (YSD) is a powerful tool for engineering the affinity, specificity, and stability of antibodies, as well as other proteins. Since first described in 1997 by Boder and Wittrup, YSD has been employed successfully in engineering a number of antibodies, as well as T-cell receptors. A recently reported large nonimmune single chain antibody library serves as a good starting poin...

Local Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (LEIS) is an emerging discipline in the field of electrochemical research. It is based on the widely accepted Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) technique, a powerful method to determine reaction mechanisms on macroscopic electrodes. When however the electrode represents a heterogeneous behavior, local information is indispensable. This pro...

Subdivision surfaces are finding their way into many Computer Aided Design and Animation packages. Popular choices include Loop, Catmull-Clark, Doo-Sabin etc. Subdivision surfaces have many design advantages over traditional use of NURBs. NURB surfaces always are problematic when multiple patches meet. Reverse engineering (RE) is associated with the idea of scanning physical objects and represe...

We report the ability of cellulose to support cells without the use of matrix ligands on the surface of the material, thus creating a two-component system for tissue engineering of cells and materials. Sheets of bacterial cellulose, grown from a culture medium containing Acetobacter organism were chemically modified with glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride or by oxidation with sodium hypochlorit...

T-spline surfaces are a powerful tool in geometric modelling. A T-spline surface is an approximation of a T-grid data structure. T-grids support adaption operations like local refinement or merging of existing NURBS grids. Digital terrain models based on T-spline surfaces benefit from non-regular control grids. We show some exemplary application cases for T-spline based terrain modelling.

Offshore pipelines are usually constructed by the use of girth welds, while welds may naturally contain flaws. Currently, fracture assessment procedures such as BS 7910 are based on the stress-based methods and their responses for situations with large plastic strain is suspicious. DNV-OS-F101 with limited modifications proposes a strain-based procedure for such plastic loads. In this paper 3D ...

in design of experiments, analysis and identifying those variables that affect the outputs are of interest. response surface methodology is a mathematical-statistical method to optimize the experiment outputs. this method tries to find the best response levels by optimizing the design variables called factors. in many engineering applications, robust design has become the most important issues....
