We discuss the structure of the framed moduli space of Bogomolny monopoles for arbitrary symmetry breaking and extend the definition of its stratification to the case of arbitrary compact Lie groups. We show that each stratum is a union of submanifolds for which we conjecture that the natural L metric is hyperKähler. The dimensions of the strata and of these submanifolds are calculated, and it ...

Scales of mass generation for Majorana neutrinos (as well as quarks and leptons) can be probed from high energy 2 → n inelastic scattering involving a multiple longitudinal gauge boson final state. We demonstrate that the unitarity of 2 → n scattering puts the strongest new upper limit on the scale of fermion mass generation, independent of the electroweak symmetry breaking scale v = ( √ 2GF ) ...

Given its importance in modern physics, philosophers of science have paid surprisingly little attention to the subject of symmetries and invariances, and they have largely neglected the subtopic of symmetry breaking. I illustrate how the topic of laws and symmetries brings into fruitful interaction technical issues in physics and mathematics with both methodological issues in philosophy of scie...

We discuss the isospin symmetry breaking quantity ∆ ±0 ≡ Γ(B ± → ρ ± γ)/2Γ(B 0 → ρ 0 γ)−1, and the direct CP violation in B ± → ρ ± γ within and beyond the standard model. After showing that the leading-order calculation would be a good approximation in such models, we argue that measurements of these quantities would be able to disentagle physics beyond the standard model.

We discuss the stability of strangelets — quark droplets with strangeness — in the Nambu–Jona-Lasinio model supplemented by a boundary condition for quark confinement. Effects of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking are considered properly inside quark droplets of arbitrary baryon number. We obtain the energy per baryon number of quark droplets with baryon number from one to thousands. It is show...

Gauge theories commonly employ complex vector-valued fields to reduce symmetry groups through the Higgs mechanism of spontaneous symmetry breaking. The geometry of the internal space V is tacitly assumed to be the metric geometry of some static, nondynamical hermitian metric k. In this paper, we consider G-principal bundle gauge theories, where G is a subgroup of U(V ,k) (the unitary transforma...

Rochelle salt has a remarkable characteristic of becoming more ordered for a range of high temperatures before melting. In the particle physics language this means more symmetry breaking for high T. In many realistic field theories this is a perfectly consistent scenario which has profound consequences in the early universe. In particular it implies that there may be no domain wall and monopole...

We study the vacuum structure and dynamical symmetry breaking in the gaugeHiggs unification of the 5D theory compactified on an orbifold, S/Z2. This theory identifies Wilson line degrees of freedoms as “Higgs doublets”. We consider SU(3)c × SU(3)W and SU(6) models with the compactification scale of order a few TeV. The gauge symmetries are reduced to SU(3)c × SU(2)L × U(1)Y and SU(3)c × SU(2)L ...

To embed the seesaw mechanism in the MSSM, two or three right-handed neutrino supermultiplets, Ni, have to be added to the model. In the presence of these new superfields, the soft supersymmetry breaking potential includes a lepton number violating mass term which is known as the neutrino B-term, MBνÑÑ/2. In this paper, we study the effects of Bν on the Higgs mass parameters. Using the conditio...
