A new series of 1,3-thiazole and benzo[d]thiazole derivatives 10-15 has been developed, characterized, and evaluated for in vitro antimicrobial activity at concentrations of 25-200 μg/mL against Gram+ve organisms such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Gram-ve organisms such as Escherichia coli (E. coli), and the fungal strain Aspergillus niger (A. niger) by the cup plate me...

We present the synthesis and characterization of well-defined polycationic copolymers containing thiazole dyes in the side chain. Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was used for the copolymerization of 3-azidopropyl methacrylate (AzPMA) and N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) of different composition. Thiazole-based alkyne-functionalized dyes (e.g., 5-methyl-4-(prop-2-yn-1-ylo...

The interaction of human serum albumin with Ethyl 2-[2-(dimethylamino)-4-(4-nitrophenyl)- 1,3-thiazole-5-yl]-2-oxoacetate was investigated by using isothermal titration UV-visible spectrophotometry in tris-buffer, pH 7.4. According to these results, it was found that there are a set of 4 binding sites for this ligand on HSA with positive cooperativity in the binding process. This thiazole deriv...

Leinamycin (LNM), produced by Streptomyces atroolivaceus, is a thiazole-containing hybrid peptide-polyketide natural product structurally characterized with an unprecedented 1,3-dioxo-1,2-dithiolane moiety that is spiro-fused to a 18-member macrolactam ring. LNM exhibits a broad spectrum of antimicrobial and antitumor activities, most significantly against tumors that are resistant to clinicall...

The synthesis and biological evaluation of 6,7-bis(hydroxymethyl)-1H,3H-pyrrolo[1,2-c]thiazoles as anticancer agents against MCF7 breast cancer cell lines is reported. The design of the new compounds has been guided considering (3R)-6,7-bis(hydroxymethyl)-5-methyl-3-phenyl-1H,3H-pyrrolo[1,2-c]thiazole as the lead compound due to its good performance against MCF7 breast cancer cell lines (IC(50)...

Thiamin (vitamin B1) is an essential micronutrient needed as a cofactor for many central metabolic enzymes. Animals must have thiamin in their diet, whereas bacteria, fungi, and plants can biosynthesize it de novo from the condensation of a thiazole and a pyrimidine moiety. Although the routes to biosynthesize these two heterocycles are not conserved in different organisms, in all cases exogeno...

A series of heteroaryl-substituted bis-trifluoromethyl carbinols were prepared and evaluated as malonyl-CoA decarboxylase (MCD) inhibitors. Some thiazole-based derivatives showed potent in vitro MCD inhibitory activities and significantly increased glucose oxidation rates in isolated working rat hearts.

Thiazole orange-modified diarylethene (1) shows weak fluorescence but no photochromism in aqueous solution. When binding with DNA, the fluorescence of 1 is enhanced drastically and the photochromic reactivity is unlocked. This kind of DNA-responsive photoswitchable system can be used for imaging nucleic acids within cells.

Oxazole and thiazole molecules N-coordinated to manganese(i) are transformed into their corresponding 2,3-dihydrooxazol-2-ylidene and 2,3-dihydrothiazol-2-ylidene carbene tautomers by acid-base reactions, and subsequently transmetalated to gold(i), via isolable heterometallic intermediates.
