Targeted deletion of the gene for GDF11, a novel member of the TGFbeta family, has been found to cause an increase in the number of thoracic and lumbar vertebrae in the mouse. This is the first hint that a secreted factor may influence the specification of segment identity.

Incidental detection of lumbar Paget's disease by bone densitometry SIR, Bone densitometry of the hip and lumbar spine using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is used to diagnose osteoporosis. We report three patients who were referred for bone densitometry, in whom a diagnosis of Paget's disease was made after the investigation of significantly increased bone mineral density (BMD) of a si...

The relevance of this topic is determined by the fact that laboratory animals are widely used in experimental morphology. most ones rats [1 - 7]. There a number studies which authors cover detail normal morphological state various organs and its changes under experimentally simulated pathological conditions [8 12]. available on rats’ musculoskeletal system spine highlight insufficiently. Cavernous hemangiomas (CHs) can be found in all intracranial structures, especially the brain parenchyma. Most spinal are of vertebral origin. Spinal cavernous that do not hold vertebrae called "pure" types. Pure epidural (SECHs) very rare and account for approximately 4% lesions. Here is a case pure thoracic SECH detected 42-year-old female patient with progressive paraparesis sensory loss bel...

IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a fibroinflammatory condition that can affect practically every organ. Although it was first identified in pancreas and salivary glands, major organs like liver, biliary tree, kidney, thyroid glands and lungs are commonly involved, sometimes resulting in organ failure. We describe a case of an 41-year-old man presented with back pain after a rotator cuff injury...

The number of vertebrae is an economically important trait that affects carcass length and meat production in pigs. A major quantitative trait locus (QTL) for thoracic vertebral number has been repeatedly identified on pig chromosome (SSC) 7. To dissect the genetic basis of the major locus, we herein genotyped a large sample of animals from 3 experimental populations of Chinese and Western orig...

We report the case of a 72-year-old man with bilateral intrathoracic carotid bifurcations associated with a Klippel-Feil anomaly. The left and right carotid bifurcations were located at levels corresponding to the second and fourth thoracic vertebrae, respectively. A possible association between low carotid bifurcation and the Klippel-Feil anomaly is suggested.
