The Minnesota Nano Center’s Keller Hall facility includes an atomic layer deposition (ALD) machine that is capable of depositing uniform alumina (Al2O3), hafnium oxide (HfO2), silicon dioxide (SiO2), zinc oxide (ZnO), and titanium dioxide (TiO2). ALD works by building alternate layers on a film using two different precursor gases – one usually supplying the metallic atoms and water vapor (H2O) ...

Introduction One-pot oxidation reaction consisted of direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) from H2 and O2 gases and oxidation reaction using in situ generated H2O2 is promising synthetic method, because it is possible to use the unstable H2O2 immediately without isolation/purification steps, which would contribute to energy and time saving as well as avoid the risk of transportation of t...

Material surface is a key determinant of host response on implanted biomaterial. Therefore, modification of the implant surface may optimize implant-tissue reactions. Inflammatory reaction is inevitable after biomaterial implantation, but prolonged inflammation may lead to adverse reactions and subsequent implant failure. Proinflammatory activities of cytokines like interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, an...

The viscosity of dilute suspensions of several metal oxides (SiO2, Al2O3 and TiO2) was measured at different pH values. The intrinsic viscosity, [eta], was derived from the concentration dependence of the viscosity. This magnitude was pH-dependent. A correlation with the shape of the kinetic unity has been proposed.

This paper presents the design, optimization and fabrication of 16 MgO/TiO2 and SiO2/TiO2 based high selective narrow bandpass optical filters. Their performance to extract diffuse reflectance and fluorescence signals from gastrointestinal tissue phantoms was successfully evaluated. The obtained results prove their feasibility to correctly extract those spectroscopic signals, through a Spearman...

The IR spectra of bulk Nb2O5‚nH2O and niobia supported on SiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2, and TiO2 were recorded in the fundamental and overtone NbdO regions, as well as in the hydroxyl region, to develop a better understanding of the structural models of surface NbOx species. The coincidence of the IR and Raman fundamental NbdO frequency in Nb2O5/Al2O3, Nb2O5/ZrO2, and Nb2O5/TiO2 provides the strongest evi...

This manuscript presents a 4 years in-situ evaluation of TiO2/SiO2-based product applied to mortar seating belonging the bleachers Cadiz Roman Theatre, affected by biofouling and organic deposits. Antifouling performance was studied colorimetric measurements ATP analyses. Surface sampling performed for identification, being remarkable presence filamentous fungi cyanobacteria. Additionally, anti...

Unidirectional volatile switching behavior is a typical resistive phenomenon in oxides, which has been proposed as attractive candidates for selection devices high density memory and neuromorphic systems applications with cross-point arrays. However, the microscopic origin of underlying mechanism still unclear due to lack direct experimental evidence. Here, performance device low forming voltag...
