The paper describes our experience of the design and utilization of a substrate for mobile objects that resides in the middleware layer. It has helped us to develop mobile object/agent systems including a heterogeneous mobile object system, mobile programming language systems, and mobile Web-search robots.

This short note points out an improvement on the robust stability analysis for electrically driven robots given in the paper. In the paper, the author presents a FAT-based direct adaptive control scheme for electrically driven robots in presence of nonlinearities associated with actuator input constraints. However, he offers not suitable stability analysis for the closed-loop system. In other w...

As robots become more common, it becomes increasingly useful for them to communicate and effectively share knowledge that they have learned through their individual experiences. Learning from experiences, however, is oftentimes embodiment-specific; that is, the knowledge learned is grounded in the robot’s unique sensors and actuators. This type of learning raises questions as to how communicati...

Robots play such remarkable roles in humans’ modern lives that performing many tasks without them isimpossible. Using robotic systems is gradually increasing the tasks allocated to them and they are becomingmore complex and critical. Software reliability is one of the most significant requirements of robots. Forenhancing reliability, systems should be inherently designed to be tolerable of soft...

R obots are electromechanical machines that can be used to perform repetitive or dangerous tasks in place of humans. Although robots are now widely used in industrial mass production, it was not until the mid-1990s that robots were first introduced to clinical medicine. Medical robots are gaining widespread use in surgery because of advantages such as high precision and speed, reproducibility, ...

In web-based education and learning, the constant growth of Internet has thrown up inconceivable opportunities problems. Web 3.0, most recent version web, is believed to be a technologically sophisticated medium that allows users Read/Write/Execute also robots perform some thinking formerly reserved for human beings. Online marketing with web 3.0 known as intuitive Web, which Semantic services ...

One source major of email addresses for spammers involves “harvesting” them from websites. This paper describes a proposal to allow a website owner to make illegal such automated extraction of email addresses. We propose a “no-email-collection” standard for websites and a mechanism to track spammers violating the standard. There are four parts to this proposal. The first part is to create speci...

Locomotion for legged robots poses considerable challenges when confronted by obstacles and adverse environments. Footstep planners are typically only designed for one mode of locomotion, but traversing unfavorable environments may require several forms of locomotion to be sequenced together, such as walking, crawling, and jumping. Multimodal motion planners can be used to address some of these...

Against the background of the uncanny valley hypothesis (Mori, 1970) and its conceptual shortcomings the present study aims at identifying design characteristics which determine the evaluation of robots. We conducted a web-based survey (N = 151) with standardized pictures of 40 robots which were evaluated. A cluster analysis revealed six clusters of robots. We were able to identify different gr...
