The family of orthogonal polynomials corresponding to a generalized Jacobi weight function was considered by Wheeler and Gautschi who derived recurrence relations, both for the related Chebyshev moments and for the associated orthogonal polynomials. We obtain an explicit representation of these polynomials, from which the recurrence relation can be derived.

We apply the holonomic gradient method to compute the distribution function of a weighted sum of independent noncentral chi-square random variables. It is the distribution function of the squared length of a multivariate normal random vector. We treat this distribution as an integral of the normalizing constant of the Fisher-Bingham distribution on the unit sphere and make use of the partial di...

We propose a family of eighth-order iterative methods without memory for solving nonlinear equations. The new iterative methods are developed by using weight function method and using an approximation for the last derivative, which reduces the required number of functional evaluations per step. Their efficiency indices are all found to be 1.682. Several examples allow us to compare our algorith...

Pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation drug therapy is based upon body weight, a statistic that often requires estimation. Using two current techniques of estimating body weight and the devised weight-estimating method (DWEM), the authors estimated the weights of 258 children. The DWEM, which is based on body habitus and height, was more accurate than other methods (P less than 0.01). Using he...

Fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs) constitute an attractive modeling approach that encompasses advantageous features. The most pronounces are the flexibility in system design, model and control, the comprehensive operation and the abstractive representation of complex systems. The main deficiencies of FCMs are the critical dependence on the initial expert’s beliefs, the recalculation of the weights co...

A unified framework integrating the generalized ensemble sampling associated with the Tsallis weight [C. Tsallis, J. Stat. Phys. 52, 479 (1988)] and the replica exchange method (REM) has been proposed to accelerate the convergence of the conventional temperature REM (t-REM). Using the effective temperature formulation of the Tsallis weight sampling, it is shown that the average acceptance proba...

AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) has been widely used in decision making. Inner dependence method AHP is one technique even in case of criteria have dependency. However using original AHP or Inner dependence method, the results often lose reliability because the comparison matrix does not always have sufficient consistency. In these cases, fuzzy representation for weighting criteria and alterna...

There are many challenges in testing of Graphical User Interface (GUI) applications due to its event driven nature and infinite input domain. Testing each and every possible combination of input require creating number of test cases to satisfy the adequacy criteria of GUI testing. It is not possible to test each and every test case within specified time frame. Therefore it is important to assig...

BACKGROUND This study evaluated the performance of a new weight estimation strategy (Mercy Method) with four existing weight-estimation methods (APLS, ARC, Broselow, and Nelson) in children from Ouelessebougou, Mali. METHODS Otherwise healthy children, 2 mos to 16 yrs, were enrolled and weight, height, humeral length (HL) and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) obtained by trained raters. Weig...

In this paper, we propose a novel weight initialization method for the Random Neural Network. The method relies on approximating the signal-flow equations of the network to obtain a linear system of equations with nonnegativity constraints. For the solution of the formulated linear Nonnegative Least Squares problem we have developed an improved projected gradient algorithm. It is shown that sup...
