Spiroplasma kunkelii causes corn stunt disease of Zea mays L. in the Americas. Here, we report the nucleotide sequence of the 1,463,926-bp circular chromosome and four plasmids of strain CR2-3x. This information will facilitate studies of Spiroplasma pathogenicity and evolutionary adaptations to transkingdom parasitism in plants and insect vectors.
The performance of every plant in an environment is an indicator of how the plant can withstand the various environmental conditions. This study investigated the toxicity of crude oil on the growth performance, chlorophyll contents, enzymatic activities and oxidative stress biomarkers of eight accessions of Zea mays. The growth enzyme (amylase and invertase) activities, as well as oxidative s...
Cytogenetic evidence indicates that Zea, which comprises maize (Z. mays ssp. mays) and its wild relatives, is an allopolyploid genus. Our research group has carried out numerous cytogenetic studies on Zea species, mainly focused native Argentinian Bolivian landraces. We found a wide inter- intraspecific genome size variation in the genus, with mean 2C-values ranging between 4.20 11.36 pg. For l...

in this research, several chemical extractants and modified olsen methods were studied in 25 surface-calcareous soils (0-30 cm) for determining available phosphorus (p) for corn (zea mays l.) plant. in this experiment, the highest correlation was obtained between extracted p by olsen and colwell methods (nahco3-extractable p) and dry weight of corn shoot (r =0.67 and 0.75, p
Populations were developed as intergradations among three maize cultivars, two adapted to North Carolina and one to Mexico, with the objective of testing whether diallel information could be used to identify the relationships among populations. The data substantiated theoretical observations that the technique would identify relationships among populations resulting from recent intergradations.
This paper examines the relationship between the maize export prices of the United States and Argentina. The results suggest an asymmetric nature of price adjustment. This could be due to the fact that the maize market is characterized by significant concentration. The larger market share of exports by the United States reflects the influences on export price dynamics. The structure of maize tr...
